The foodies amongst us must be sad.
An iconic muffin bakery will be shuttering for good on 23 December 2023. That’s not a great Christmas present for anyone.
According to some netizens who posted the physical announcement located at Chocolat N’ Spice’s Tanjong Pagar outlet, “costs and overheads” were the reason for the bakery’s closure.
Unfortunately, this means that a heritage bakery operating for over 19 years at that location will no longer exist in the CBD (central business district) area.
You better head down soon if you want to grab some of their delicious bakes before it’s too late.
Here is more about the bakery’s closure.
Chocolat’ N Spice Will Be Closing the Tanjong Pagar outlet for Good on 23 December 2023
Those with a penchant for desserts and muffins may know of the brand Chocolat’ N Spice.
Known for serving delicious muffins at reasonable prices, the household brand has grown to several outlets over the years.
Unfortunately, it will be scaling back its operations in the Central Business District area, Tanjong Pagar.
A physical announcement printed and pasted at the Tanjong Pagar outlet announced that the branch’s last day of operations would be 23 December 2023.
It Was Financially Difficult for the Bakery to Continue Its Operations
While the shop appeared to be doing well on the surface, there was actually some trouble brewing.
In the announcement, which netizens posted on Facebook, the shop announced that it was “operating at a loss” due to the “very high” costs and overheads involved in operating the outlet.
It is always sad when a local business is outpriced from doing business due to rising costs and inflation.
If you work in the CBD area, you may want to look at grabbing some muffins, priced affordably between $1.70 and $2.00, within the next few days.
It Still Has Two Other Outlets in Singapore
The good news is that the outlet’s staff will not be out of a job. In fact, they will be “relocated to Telok Blangah”.
Chocolat’ N Spice will continue to take corporate orders from there and use LALAMOVE to help coordinate the deliveries.
For those who stay in the central area, you can still drop by their outlet at Shunfu Market to grab some desserts.
We are glad that the closure of a shop that was open for 19 years will not mean the final closure of the brand altogether.
For those who are unaware, the Shunfu Market outlet is the OG stall, which was started by a former pastry cook from Mandarin Oriental and supervisor at The Fullerton.
