A 67-year-old cleaner received a prison sentence of 11 months and two weeks on 14 May 2025, after pleading guilty to molesting a 10-year-old girl twice on the same day at a primary school.
The man, whose name was redacted from court documents, committed the offences in May 2024 while employed as a cleaner at the school.

The first incident occurred at around 11:15am on 6 May 2024, near the school canteen during recess.

The cleaner called out to the girl who was standing near the canteen, approached her, and hugged her from the front while moving his body in a lewd manner.
The victim did not return the hug and immediately ran into the canteen after he released her.
Shortly after, while the girl was seated at a table inside the canteen, the man approached her again, sat beside her, and placed his left arm around her back.
He only left when a boy approached the victim.
Around 11:30am, as the girl was heading back to class, the cleaner tried to kiss her.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Xavier Tan noted that the victim “cringed and turned her head away,” successfully preventing him from kissing her before she walked away to join her classmates.
Second Molestation Incident Captured on School Security Footage
The second incident took place later that same day, shortly before noon, during the victim’s Physical Education class in the school’s indoor sports hall.
The girl was playing alone with a ball when the cleaner hugged her from behind and moved his body inappropriately.

The victim exclaimed, “Don’t touch me!” but after releasing her, the man moved in front of her and hugged her again.
His actions caused the child to drop the ball before he finally let go of her.
Footage of this incident presented in court on 14 May 2025 showed the cleaner committing the offence while other students were nearby.
The victim reported both incidents to her teacher when her PE class ended, after which the police were alerted.
The man was charged in court later in 2024.

Under Singapore law, each count of molesting a person under 14 years old carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment, a fine, caning, or any combination of these punishments.
The cleaner could not be caned as he is over 50 years old.
