If you’re an avid fan of Irene Ang’s Soi Candy Thai Noodle & Seafood Bar, I’m afraid I have some terrible news for you. After more than three years of operations…
The Thai eatery will officially close on 31 July 2023.
Irene Ang Closing Her Thai Eatery Soi Candy Due to “Crazy Rental Hike”
The saddening revelation was first unveiled on the eatery’s official Instagram page soicandysg. The owner, local actress-host Irene Ang, then shared it a few days later.

In a heartfelt post that tears at the heartstrings, the local artiste documented the entire rationale behind the sudden closure.
Apparently, there was a “new crazy rental hike” that was unveiled only when the restaurant was “due for renewal”.
This made it impossible for them to continue at their current location.
Left with no other choice, they ultimately decided to discontinue the business.
But This Is Not The End
Though their current outlet at 20 Tanjong Pagar Road will soon be a thing of the past, the Soi Candy brand will not be ceasing just yet.
The veteran actress ended off on a positive note, stating that they “believe and hope” to bring us the restaurant’s next chapter in the near future.
So until then, we can only wait. And, of course, follow their Instagram pages for further updates.
In the meantime, we’ve got until 30 July 2023 to frequent the place, which Chef Candy, Jeremon, Ae and Nam currently lead.

Increasing Rent
Unfortunately, Soi Candy Thai Noodle & Seafood Bar isn’t the only establishment in recent history to close due to rising rental fees & other operating costs.
On 24 June 2023, the beloved Hanis Cafe & Bakery at the National Library announced its impending closure.
In an interview with Lianhe Zaobao, the founder of Hanis Cafe & Bakery revealed that the cost of operating the cafe, such as employees’ salaries, rent, electricity bills and other costs, have been constantly rising.
Hence, after careful consideration, he decided that closing the cafe would be the most beneficial to Han’s as a whole.
