A wise old man once told me that pasar malam in Singapore is dead.
Which I’d have to agree. Those traditional three-day ones that line up the footpaths in front of HDB blocks seem to have disappeared; even if you see one, you won’t spot kids forcing their parents to drop by the area.
And I’ll go out on a limb and say this: because it’s the same stalls every. Single. Time.

But with the impending demise of those pasar malams with red and white shelters comes a new breed of pasar malam: food bazaar.
And these food bazaars aren’t your typical fly-by-night night markets.
They’ve been popping up in various prominent areas.
Just a while back, I was at a large bazaar next to Sembawang MRT Station and boy was I impressed.
I spent a whopping three hours there: two hours were spent waiting for my fried stinky tofu.
So you can imagine how successful these bazaars are.
Now, one’s popped up at Ang Mo Kio, and judging from its central location and the number of people living in that area, all I can say is that go at your own risk.

CNY Bazaar Beside AMK MRT Has Stinky Tofu & Traditional IG-Worthy Foods Like Colourful Kuehs
If you live in Ang Mo Kio, you’d know that there is an empty area just in front AMK Hub. Even when it’s empty, it’s always packed with people waiting for people or humans waiting for humans.
Now, Chinese New Year has breathed some life into this already-lively area with a CNY bazaar.
And the best of all? It comprises several of the stalls in the bigly bazaar in Sembawang.

Yeah, this bazaar isn’t just about trending foods; it has traditional foods as well!
If you’re already a parent, Ang Mo Kio would be a goody place to show your kids what you used to makan in the past.
The bazaar has started and will last until 24 January 2019 (CNY Eve). It’s located just in front of AMK Hub and will be open daily from 11am to 11pm.
Here’s a pro-tip: do drop by early. Some stalls close earlier, and many stalls run out of food near closing time.
