Earlier this week, on Wednesday (5 July), it was revealed that Hong Kong-born superstar Coco Lee had passed away from a suicide attempt.
And while her sisters and fellow celebrities promptly posted tributes to the 48-year-old star, her husband was silent for the hours after her passing.
Her husband, Bruce Rockowitz, is a Canadian businessman based in Hong Kong.
The pair got married in 2011.
But it seems like Mr Rockowitz has finally broken his silence, and it also seems like both Lee’s sisters and the public have something to say about his latest announcement.
Coco Lee’s Husband Posted Obituary, Called Her a “Beloved Wife”
On 6 July, Mr Rockowitz posted an obituary for Lee’s passing.
The obituary, which was signed by himself, both of Mr Rockowitz’s daughters from his previous marriage, as well as Lee’s two older sisters, “Coco was a beautiful person inside and out, warm and kind. She was an accomplished singer-songwriter, a talented performer, a caring mentor to the younger generation, a beloved wife, a well-loved friend and a dear family member.”
It was also reported that Mr Rockowitz, who is in his 60s, was not in Hong Kong at the time of Lee’s passing.
However, he flew back to Hong Kong the next day.
Lee’s Sister Claimed that Obituary Was Not Signed by the Lee Sisters, Indirectly Hinted
But that’s not all there is to the matter.
After the obituary was uploaded, Nancy Lee, one of Coco Lee’s older sisters, commented on a news report about the obituary, saying, “This was posted by her husband. It was not prepared by me.”
Which basically implied that Mr Rockowitz failed to communicate with the Lee sisters before posting the obituary.
Additionally, the fact that she called Mr Rockowitz “her husband” also suggested that the pair were still married.
Previously, many reports suggested that Coco Lee and Mr Rockowitz had been separated for over two years at the time of her death.
It was also reported that they were going to sign divorce papers later this month.
Lee Used to Have a Good Relationship With Her Stepdaughters, But that Changed After Rockowitz Cheated on Her Thrice
Apart from that, it was also pointed out that Lee used to be on good terms with Mr Rockowitz’s two daughters, Rachel and Sarah.
She once said in an interview that in their hearts, she cannot replace their mother.
Hence, she decided to become friends with them and a strong source of support for the sisters instead.
Lee also revealed that she would give them relationship advice whenever they needed it.
However, that all changed after the two sisters supported their dad.
Even after he reportedly cheated on Lee thrice.
This caused Lee to be extremely saddened; the couple’s separation also caused the relationship to sour even further.
As of now, neither of the sisters has posted on social media about their stepmother’s passing.
On the other hand, many netizens have called Mr Rockowitz out and have even flamed him for cheating on Lee.
Scammers Trying to “Raise Funds” After Lee’s Death
Most recently, on Thursday (6 July) night, Nancy Lee took to Facebook to alert the public about scammers trying to profit from her sister’s passing.
According to her, scammers have been trying to use her passing to “raise funds for charity”.
“Please be aware that we will not do fund-raising of any sort and have not issued any memorial products in her name. Our family will reserve our legal right to pursue these people,” she announced.
Apart from that, her sister shared that the family is planning to hold memorial events in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan in August.
