With Hong Kong-born star Coco Lee’s passing last Wednesday (5 July) shocking the world, there’s no doubt that those around her have been thrust into the spotlight.
And one of these people is her husband, Bruce Rockowtiz, who is a Canada-born, Hong Kong-based businessman.
On that note, if you’ve been following the news closely, your impression of Mr Rockowitz, who is over a decade older than Lee, might be that he’s an ultra-rich businessman.
After all, past rumours stated that his assets were worth nine billion HKD (approximately S$1.54 billion).
But it seems like that might not be the case.
Netizen Exposed His Salary, Revealed that He’s Not Super Rich
Previously, ETtoday reported that a user on Xiaohongshu had done research to find out about Mr Rockowitz’s income and personal life.
According to that user, he became a private tennis coach after quitting school.
Eventually, he got to know the managers of several large companies, allowing him to become a businessman.
However, despite his assets reaching over 10 million HKD (approximately S$1.72 million), he currently draws an annual salary of just three million HKD (approximately S$520,000).
Hence, although his salary is definitely higher than the average person’s (or at least mine), he’s also nowhere near being super-duper-rich.
Coco Lee Allegedly Paid For Their Entire Wedding, Half of Her Assets Would Go to Him if They Divorced
Apart from that, it was also revealed that Coco Lee, who was 48, paid for her entire wedding when she married Mr Rockowitz in 2011.
Her lavish wedding, which was held in Hong Kong, was attended by Hollywood stars and other well-known figures.
Recently, sources have revealed that Lee was the only one who planned and paid for the wedding, which cost a whopping 150 million HKD (approximately S$26 million).
It was noted that Lee was already a well-established celebrity with more assets than Mr Rockowitz when she met him; the user on Xiaohongshu also pointed out that she still continued to pursue her career and earn more money even after getting married.
However, as both of them did not sign a prenuptial agreement, Mr Rockowitz would be entitled to half of Lee’s assets in the case of a divorce.
In response to the video posted by the Xiaohongshu user, one of Lee’s older sisters, Nancy Lee, commented to express her support.
She wrote that the user put it in the best and clearest way possible, and added that it was her sister who single-handedly brought his wealth up and helped him obtain connections.
Lee Still Loved Husband Despite News of Him Cheating Multiple Times
And while Mr Rockowitz’s cheating rumours surfaced repeatedly throughout the years, it seems like Lee still treated him with as much love as she did when she first married him.
Many netizens brought up social media posts of her expressing her love towards her husband through romantic gestures like preparing surprises for him on special occasions.
In her post for their wedding anniversary in 2015, she also wrote that she constantly tries to think of ways to make Mr Rockowitz happy.
However, after her passing, it was revealed that the couple had actually planned to finalise their divorce later this month.
Rumours of them being separated for the past two years also surfaced.
On the other hand, Mr Rockowitz wrote that Lee was a “loving wife” in her obituary.
