A 59-year-old taxi driver was stabbed in the head with a bread knife at a coffee shop in Upper Changi Road on Monday evening, requiring five stitches for his injuries.
The reason for that?
Because he was allegedly shouting for someone to take his order.
Here’s what happened.
Taxi Driver Stabbed at Coffee Shop After Dispute Over Coffee Order
The incident occurred around 6:30 PM on 6 January 2025.
The victim, Mr Chen, had stopped at the coffee shop for dinner after his shift. He sat down and tried to order coffee but claimed the staff allegedly ignored his repeated calls for service.
Due to his diabetes and leg discomfort, he remained seated and called out louder to get attention.
That was when a man approached him and asked him to stop shouting.
When Mr Chen asked about his identity, the man identified himself as the stall owner.
Okay, so maybe he’s just make his order and the story ends here, right?
No.
The situation quickly escalated when the owner, instead of taking Mr Chen’s order, ran back to the drinks stall, grabbed a bread knife, and struck Mr Chen in the head. The owner also allegedly kicked Mr. Chen after he fell.
Video footage captured by bystanders showed Mr Chen sitting on a chair with blood streaming down his face and staining his clothes, with two police officers standing nearby.
A female vendor at the coffee shop, who asked to remain anonymous, told Shin Min Daily News that the owner had just returned from outside when he heard the shouting. She mentioned that Mr Chen had been calling out for 5-10 minutes before complaining to the owner about the lack of service.
The police confirmed receiving a report about the incident. A spokesperson stated that the victim was conscious when taken to the hospital.
The 59-year-old shop owner was arrested for allegedly using a dangerous weapon to intentionally cause harm. Investigations are ongoing.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed they transported one person to Changi General Hospital following the incident.
