It’s 25 Jan, and you know what that means:

It’s gonna be the Chinese New Year soon!

Yeah, I know, I know. Despite all the treats and red packets you’re undoubtedly going to get, there’s one thing that’s mortifying above all else:

Questions from your relatives.

For years, you’ve been terrorised, traumatised even by questions that range from the likes of “Ah girl, haven’t find boyfriend ah?” to “Ah girl, is it you too picky?” to “Ah girl, maybe you should consider that bald Ah Seng across the street ah?”

Yeah, it gets pretty bad.

“I can’t find a boyfriend because I’m too busy with work,” you want to scream, but doing that will just warrant a tight slap from your mum and cold gazes from your relatives.

Hardly worth it.

As a result, you can only wait with bated breath as CNY draws ever closer, and quietly accept your fate. It’s my time, my destiny, you breathe.

BUT WAIT. Before you close your eyes and let yourself be taken, hear me out. For somewhere in China, there’s a company that doesn’t just let you find a boyfriend…

It rewards you for it.

A company that wishes the best for its employees, like legitimately

Somewhere in China, a company known as Songcheng Performance has been gaining rapid attention, and for good reason too.

Having released a statement about days off during the upcoming CNY (in China, there are usually many days off during CNY), they announced that unmarried women above the age of 30 are entitled to 15 days off for the festive season. And the reason?

It was to encourage them to find partners.

According to Sinchew, the notice stated:

“Dear female employees, the company has decided to give unmarried women in the company 15 days off for Chinese New Year and for matchmaking activities (Seven days for Chinese New Year, another eight days paid leave).”

Added incentives

According to the company, they hoped that by granting these holidays, it would help their eligible female employees meet their life partner. This is especially so during the Chinese New Year when well-meaning family members have a tendency to matchmake single relatives.

They even added that if necessary, these female staff could request additional off. Sounds like a ‘testing system’ kind of thing to me, if you ask me.

And apparently, the company must be really concerned for its employees’ love lives, for they’ve actually stated that should a couple produce a marriage certificate before 31 Dec 2019, the employee in question would be entitled to a double year-end bonus.

Indeed, the all-important question begets:

Where do I sign up?

But unfortunately, I can’t

As it is, it turns out that the regulations are strictly only for the female employees.

Males aren’t entitled to the same benefits.

Accordingly, it seems that this seemingly ‘sexist’ notion stemmed from the fact that women tend to get teased more about marriage, as compared to their male counterparts.

But regardless of things, eligible female employees would have to submit their names to the human resources department before 31 January. Which means that honestly, attached females still have plenty of time to break things off.

Just kidding… or am I?

“Even if I have a boyfriend I would pretend to break up with him and then take the extra days to go travelling,” one Netizen said.

Sounds legit.

Well, whatever floats your boat, I guess.

So what’re you waiting for?

If you’re single and ready to mingle, and would appreciate more days off, well what’re you waiting for?

Don’t say bojio ah! 😉
