At a time when close contact with others is discouraged and fears of contracting the coronavirus are raging, some people are abandoning basic human decency in the name of good health.

Sadly, during the coronavirus pandemic, this usually means that those who are out there performing essential services are shunned or mistreated due to the nature of their jobs.

Just ask doctors and nurses.

Now, inconsiderate residents are targetting the ones who deliver our food, and netizens are not too pleased about it.

Dear Delivery Partners,

MCST 4370 and the residents of RV Point have kindly requested that GrabFood Delivery Partners refrain from using the lift as it is only for residents of the building.

Please use the stairs.

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Though their reason for the notice is not explicitly stated, it’s safe to assume that it’s because residents of the condo want to reduce their contact with food delivery riders.

If you’re boiling with rage right now, you’re not alone.

Netizen Reaction

Netizens on Reddit slammed the residents of RV point for what they viewed as a selfish and “elitist” move.

According to one netizen, RV point is only about 5 to 7 storeys tall, but even if this were the case, climbing 7 storeys is tiring even for the fittest food delivery rider.

A Clarification

A user by the name of suzukaze posted a response by Ocean IFM Pte Ltd on the forum site Hardware Zone.

According to the user, Ocean IFM Pte Ltd is the building management at RV Point.

In the message, Ocean IFM Pte Ltd claims that food delivery riders are still allowed to take the lift to deliver food to residents on the upper floors after their “identify & purpose of visit is verified by the resident through the intercom system.”

It says that the notice was actually put up by the “Operator of the Grab Food Distribution Point” and “not the Building Management / Ocean IFM Pte Ltd.”

Wait. So Grab put up a notice telling its own workers to take the stairs?

As for the reason for the notice, Ocean IFM claims that they asked riders to use the stairs to “avoid hogging or jamming the Lifts at B1 which affect users of the other floors.”

“We have since reached out to the said Operator of the Grab Food Distribution Point to remove and improve on their Poster to avoid any misunderstanding or confusion,” the message said.

Well, that explains the Grab font.

Update on 29 May 2020: Grab has responded to the incident:

“We wish to clarify that GrabFood delivery-partners who are delivering food to residents of RV Point Condominium are able to access the lifts and complete their deliveries.

“This signage, which was put up in March 2019 by the request of the condominium management committee, is meant to guide GrabFood delivery-partners who were picking up food orders from our GrabFood Hub located at Basement 1 of the building. Delivery-partners were requested to use the staircase when they travel between Basement 1 and Level 1. This was to prevent any hogging of the lifts between the 2 levels which might inconvenience the Condominium’s residents.

“GrabFood delivery partners are aware of this signage and know that it is made in reference to the GrabFood Hub. The well-being of our users are important to us especially during this time. We will look into making these signs clearer in order to prevent further confusion on the matter and continue to work with all partners to ensure a good delivery experience for our delivery-partners and consumers.”
