4 Condo Residents Fined Within Condo Premises; 1 Even Secretly Went to the Gym Coz It’s Unlocked

If you’ve seen the movie Castaway, you’d know that after months alone on an island, even a smart man like Tom Hanks can lose his mind and start talking to a volleyball.

But he was all alone on a freaking deserted island for six months.

On the other hand, after just two weeks of the Circuit Breaker, people here are acting as if we’ll start talking to our bubble tea drinks if we don’t leave our homes.

Reader: Two weeks? I’m pretty sure I celebrated two birthdays during the circuit breaker.

That’s just because you live alone and you like cake.

Reader: Ok good point.

The point is that people can’t seem to follow the rules and stay at home, with some of them leaving for the most trivial reasons.

4 Condo Residents Fined Within Condo Premises; 1 Even Secretly Went to the Gym

Four condominium residents have been fined for flouting safe distancing measures, said the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) in a media release on Monday (April 20).

Since it was their first offence, all four residents were fined $300.

Used the Pool & Gym

One offender who lives at a condominium at Irrawaddy Road used the pool even though the pool is clearly outside their house and not an essential activity.

Another resident of a condominium at Flora Road brought her children to play by the pool, because some minor crimes are so boring that you have to spice it up by teaching your kids how to go against the authorities too.

The fourth offender, who lives at a condominium at Amber Road, was caught using the common gym after the condominium’s management corporation failed to close all the common facilities.

Officer: Why are you at the gym?

Management Fined

For failing to close all the common facilities, the management corporation was also fined S$1,000 for breaching the regulations.

BCA said that all common facilities in condominiums must be closed to curb the spread of Covid-19.

And whether you’re a resident of an HDB flat, condominium, or you live in a mansion in space, you should not have visitors over for social purposes, and should not have social gatherings within the estates.

If you’re a condominium resident and you think that your condo premises are like your own private world where the rules don’t apply, think again.

The third resident who was fined $300 lived at a condominium at Sims Drive and was caught without a mask at the main entrance.

So, even if you’re within the estate compounds, you’ll have to wear a mask, as long as you leave your house.

That’s a grey area that even Christian Grey won’t know the answer to. Just wear lah, it makes you look better, too.

The Situation in Singapore

With a total of 8,014 cases, we now have the highest number of Covid-19 infections in Southeast Asia.

Errant residents: We’re happy we’ve contributed to something

According to CNN, we relaxed too soon, and started the circuit breaker too late, while cities like Hong Kong started enforcing such rules back in February.

That’s why our cases are climbing at an alarming rate.

The situation isn’t as bad as it seems, though.

Well yes, the numbers are high, but the majority of the new cases are from dormitory clusters.

For example, 544 of the 596 new cases reported yesterday are Work Permit holders staying in dormitories.

22 of the cases are Work Permit holders staying outside of dormitories.

That leaves just 30 cases from the community; 25 Singaporeans or Singapore PRs, and 5 Work Pass holders.

So, based on the community spread, the circuit breaker is certainly working.

Though the high number of cases from dormitories also illustrates the cramped conditions many of them are living in and how the authorities should make changes once the pandemic dies down.

In the meanwhile, we should continue to adhere to the circuit breaker rules, no matter how tough it gets.

And some experts are saying it should be extended, so prepare yourself for that outcome too.

That’s not exactly what I had in mind, but hey, at least you’re staying indoors.
