Your eyes probably zeroed in on the word “hotel” and you just ignored the rest of the title. Selective viewing at its finest.
I hate to break it to you, but this hotel certainly isn’t for leisurely staycations or weekend getaways, so please don’t get your hopes up.
Instead, do note the qualifier “business” before “hotel”—a new travel “bubble” business hotel has been launched in Singapore to allow executives to meet face-to-face with a reduced risk of exposure to COVID-19, strictly for business purposes only.
Here’s what you need to know.
Business Hotel for Travelling Executives Opened on 8 Mar With Rooms Starting from $384 Per Night
The hotel, Connect@Changi at Singapore Expo, one of the world’s first such facilities which allows executives from other countries to come to Singapore to conduct business meetings in a safe manner.
Meeting rooms in the hotel are equipped with airtight glass panels which minimises the risk of transmission of the virus. There is even a special compartment containing ultraviolet light to sanitise and disinfect documents, allowing them to be shared safely among multiple participants.
This special business hotel is not the same as quarantine hotels, in which travellers have to be quarantined for two weeks and pass COVID-19 tests before being able to leave and enter the local community.
Unlike such quarantine hotels, guests of this business hotel are not allowed to enter Singapore, and they must leave through the airport.
Rooms start from S$384 per night. This includes meals, two-way airport transfer and mandatory COVID-19 tests.
The hotel has welcomed some of its first guests from all around the world, including France, Germany, Indonesia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Mr Olivier Leroux, who checked into the hotel on Monday (8 Mar) after having come from France, said, “Given that we have operations in Singapore, I need to be able to travel to conduct face-to-face meetings with the team based in Singapore, as well as process some paperwork.”
The World Economic Forum (WEF) set for August this year is planned to be held in Singapore. As such, this “bubble” hotel has been launched in order to assist business meetings and engagements during the forum.
Singapore To Host World Economic Forum in August 2021
The World Economic Forum (WEF) was originally scheduled for May 2021, but due to the international COVID-19 situation, it has been postponed to August.
According to a statement by the WEF, the meeting will now take place from 17-20 Aug.
The meeting involves top leaders in the sectors of politics, business and academia in the discussion of prominent global issues, and is usually held in Davos, Switzerland at the end of January.
However, the coronavirus had led to a change in location to Singapore, with the date being pushed back to May, and then to August.
According to The Business Times, the WEF is aiming to attract about 1,000 delegates and is likely to be held at the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) complex.
