Scammers Are Pretending to Do Contact Tracing for Wuhan Virus & Asking for Financial Details

You should know by now that MOH is working on overdrive to do contact tracing for patients infected with the Wuhan virus.

Contact tracing is a procedure whereby MOH would identify and contact people whom the infected patient has close contact with, and then quarantine or isolate the close contact so as to contain the virus.

There has been a few cases whereby the contacted close contact was found to be infected as well despite not exhibiting any symptoms, and that helps to contain the spread of the virus to a certain extent.

But that’s also when scammers prey on this fear.

Scammers Are Pretending to Do Contact Tracing for Wuhan Virus & Asking for Financial Details

According to a MOH update, there has been cases of scammers pretending to be doing contact tracing.

It doesn’t help that people in Singapore are panicky and anxious after the DORSCON level was raised to Orange, which has led to some people starting their own minimart at home.

And the worst part of this scam?

They actually had the cheek to ask for financial details.

According to MOH, you can confirm the authenticity of the call by contacting MOH’s general hotline at 6325 9920.

SPF Facebook Page shared MOH’s post and added, “No government agency will request for personal details or transfer of money over the phone or through automated voice machines.”

So, instead of panicking over any phone calls or hoarding tons of instant noodles, do yourself a favour by bookmarking MOH’s website here.

The website doesn’t just update you about the latest development, but it also tells you about the latest misinformation and scams, like the fake CNA tweet and this latest one.
