You would have seen this handsome cop standee outside many shops in Singapore, but have you seen it in an HDB corridor before?
Apparently, residents from Block 449 along Ang Mo Kio Ave 10 have been victims of theft for five years: according to The New Paper, in the last five years, one of the residents had lost three branded shoes she placed outside her flat. Clothes hung on the corridor to dry were also stolen, and they were unsure whether it was the doing of one person or a few of them.
The only solution then was to install a CCTV, either as a deterrence or to identify the thief, but that would have cost too much.
So last year, when one of the neighbours came across a discarded handsome cop standee, he asked for permission to take it home. It was granted and when he placed the cop standee near the lift lobby, everything changed.
No longer were their shoes being stolen. In fact, one of the neighbours placed branded shoes on the corridor to lure the thief, but he or she did not strike.
While it’s unknown whether the standee had directly influenced the disappearance of the thief, it was still hilarious to see it inside an HDB.
However, just this week, the standee was removed—by real cops.
According to the police, the standees are meant to be placed in shops to prevent shoplifting. In fact, the words on the standee is “Shop Theft is a Crime”, so placing it in an HDB just doesn’t correlate with the words.
Well, no one knows whether the thief will strike back upon the removal of the standee, but one thing is for sure: it sorts of looks good in an HDB corridor. Just saying.
