Earlier this year, when some of us still thought that COVID-19 was going to be a seasonal flu that’d pass, something happened.

A man who had COVID-19 was accused of lying to MOH officers about his whereabouts, and even his wife joined in the game.

The husband had allegedly lied that he had stayed in one place when he’s been to multiple places, including another residence and three hotels, while the wife had somehow secretly lived in a hotel during her quarantine period but told MOH officers that she stayed at home throughout.

The mystery of why they’ve lied about their whereabouts hasn’t been revealed yet, but now, we know how MOH officers managed to unlock the mystery of their whereabouts.

Couple Who Lied to MOH About Their Whereabouts Were Exposed by Grab Rides

For a couple who tried to negotiate by claiming that they’ll plead guilty unless jail time is not in the mix, you’d have thought that they’ve some life skills that we peasants would be lack of.

Well, it turns out that if we play a game of chess, I could probably win them even when I’m blindfolded.

Earlier today, the husband, who had COVID-19 and has now recovered, went to trial and it was revealed that he’s been to multiple places despite claiming otherwise. You can read about it here.

And this afternoon, more details on how they were exposed were revealed.

For a start, the wife, Ms Shi Sha, was worried that information about her whereabouts would be disclosed to the media. She only provided the information after she was told that she’s legally required to do so and the information wouldn’t be revealed to the media.

How ironic that now, her whereabouts, plus her name and image, would be splashed across all newspapers.

So, how does it start?

Funnily enough, the husband, Hu Jun, had said that Shi Sha had driven him to her home.

And guess what? Shi Sha said they had taken a taxi home instead because she doesn’t have a car.

That was then the MOH officer probed on the purported “taxi”. Shi didn’t remember the company name nor the colour of the taxi.

Just something to add: Shi lives in Singapore with a long-term pass.

And when asked how they had gone from their home to Singapore General Hospital on the day Hu was hospitalised, Shi said they flagged a blue taxi.

Once again, the poor MOH officers tried to use CCTV and even approached LTA for help, but couldn’t identify the “blue taxi”.

And then, shit hit the fan.

For the couple, that is.

Grab to the Rescue

So, the MOH officer had to resort to the next solution: to check with private-hire companies to determine if a taxi was booked through one of them.

The officer-in-charge, contact tracer Georgina Lim, said, “We handed Shi Sha’s phone number to LTA to do a search through the private-hire companies, to see if she had actually booked a taxi through the mobile application, and that’s where LTA came back with Grab screening records from Shi Sha’s phone number, where it showed they took a Grab from Studio M Hotel, which was not near Nathan Road, and alighted at SGH.”

Further checks on the records show more Grab rides that weren’t declared, primarily for her husband, whereby he had been to Long Beach Seafood, Marina One Residences, Chinese embassy, Ngee Ann City and the InterContinental Singapore Hotel.

Ms Lim then told Shi to be truthful, but didn’t “specifically tell her about the Grab screening, but I did tell her we have other records and they show otherwise.”

The trial will continue tomorrow (18 August 2020), and needless to say, people are starting to stock up on popcorn le.
