As everyone waits with bated breath on the updates about the new number of cases today, which is abnormally late since it would be released somewhere around 3pm to 3.30pm, this suddenly appeared:
I won’t blame you if you have your heart in your mouth for a moment.
After all, a delay in report and a sudden announcement about some “national broadcast” would’ve made anyone nervous.
But fret not; PM Lee isn’t going on stage to announce a new Circuit Breaker, nor is he wearing blue to tell us that the Phase One will be extended.
Instead, it’s going to be a series of speeches by PM Lee and a few ministers.
National Broadcasts from Tomorrow (7 June 2020) Onwards
These are planned speeches, so don’t expect anyone to tell you that Phase Two will start from December 2022 instead.
The broadcasts would allow Singapore leaders to explain “what a post-COVID-19 future looks like for Singapore, and lay out plans to see the country through the storm and emerge stronger.”

PM Lee will start the ball rolling tomorrow (7 June 2020) from 7:30pm with the theme “Overcoming the Crisis of a Generation”.
Now, don’t make your way to NTUC FairPrice to hoard rolls of toilet paper yet—let me highlight that this is a planned speech to let us know what the future is going to be like.
This will go on until 20 June 2020, and here’s the schedule:
So tell your parents, grandparents, uncles and aunties: don’t worry about PM Lee appearing on TV again.
Everything’s okay.
The key components of the speeches would be these:
- What Singaporeans must do to live with COVID-19 for the long haul to go about their daily lives safely
- How Singaporeans can maintain relevance on the world stage as the geopolitical situation changes
- How to keep Singapore’s economy competitive so that businesses can prosper and create good jobs for Singaporeans
- How to create promising opportunities for all Singaporeans to succeed, and care for the more vulnerable
- How Singaporeans can work together to emerge stronger from this crisis.
You can watch the speeches on Gov.sg’s website, Facebook page, YouTube channel and Twitter.
Your parents can watch them on TV in four different languages:
