Today’s a tad different because we can now officially call COVID-19 a pandemic, though honestly speaking, it’s just a different word.
Singapore’s not changing its DORSCON level and life still goes on with new COVID-19 cases.
The good news is that we know the source of infections for all the 9 cases announced today, and the bad news is that the number of imported cases has started to spike consistently.

9 New COVID-19 Cases in S’pore Today (12 Mar); 2 From Mass Religious Gathering in M’sia
3 of the cases announced today are linked to the SAFRA Jurong cluster, which now has a whopping 43 linked cases.
They are a 66-year-old female Singaporean, a 34-year-old male Singaporean and a 64-year-old male Singaporean.
There are 5 imported cases today:
- A 71-year-old male Singaporean who has been in the US from 27 Feb to 10 March
- An 83-year-old male Indonesian who came to Singapore on 9 March
- A 76-year-old female Indonesian who came to Singapore with the 83-year-old
- A 29-year-old Singaporean who had attended a mass religious gathering at a mosque in Malaysia
- A 48-year-old Singaporean who had attended a mass religious gathering at a mosque in Malaysia
The last patient is a 35-year-old Filipino national who works in Singapore, and is linked to Case 172.
Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) Closes all Mosques for at Least Five Days
To prevent community spread through mosque activities, Minister-in-Charge of Muslim Affairs Masagos Zulkifli announced today that the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) will close all mosques for at least five days from Friday for cleaning.
Lest you didn’t know, some Singaporeans have attended a mass religious gathering at a mosque in Malaysia, and as you probably know by now, two of them are infected.
Mosques will also cancel all activities, lectures, religious classes and mosque-based kindergartens for two weeks, from Friday to 27 March 2020.

Updates on Confirmed Cases
As of now, there are 187 confirmed cases in Singapore.
96 of them have fully recovered and have been discharged while 9 are in ICU. The conditions of the other patients are either stable or improving.
As of noon today, MOH has identified 4,550 close contacts who have been quarantined. Of these, 1,248 are currently quarantined, and 3,302 have completed their quarantine.
