If you want to know how fast the coronavirus can spread without precautions, today’s number should do just that:
A total of 728 cases were reported today.
However, a majority of them were related to dormitories, which goes to show how fast it can spread without safe distancing, and why you should stay at home.
Here’s today’s announcement.
Record High of 728 New COVID-19 Cases in S’pore Today (16 Apr)
A whopping 728 cases were announced today.
Once again, there is no imported case.
As for cases in the community, there are 48 of such cases. However, the number of new cases in the community has decreased slightly, from an average of 38 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 37 per day in the past week.
26 cases are work permit holders who don’t stay in dormitories.
The remaining 654 cases are work permit holders staying in dormitories.
The reason for the high number of dormitory-related cases is that the authorities are doing more tests for people living in dormitories.
It’s also revealed that a patient that was reported yesterday works in the healthcare industry; she’s a 41-year-old Singaporean who works as an admin staff in KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Updates on Confirmed Cases
This means as of now, we have 4,427 confirmed cases.
683 have fully recovered and are discharged. 23 are now in ICU. 10 have passed away due to complications from COVID-19 infection.
The conditions of the remaining patients are stable or improving. Of this group, 1,848 of them who are clinically well but still test positive for COVID-19 are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
In a separate news, a 39-year-old Bangladesh national, who was part of the Seletar Aerospace Heights construction site cluster, has been moved to a general ward after being in ICU for almost two months.
