54 New COVID-19 Cases in S’pore Today (23 Mar); 1 is an 80-Year-Old S’porean

Today marks the day whereby we’ve the most number of COVID-19 cases in a day, at a whopping 54 new cases.

That also means Singapore has over 500 confirmed cases so far.

Most of the new cases are imported and have been to the UK, which currently has 5,702 cases though there might be many undetected cases.

Here’s today’s announcement.

54 New COVID-19 Cases in S’pore Today (23 Mar); A Record High With Total Cases Now Over 500

Out of the 54 new cases, 48 of them are imported. 34 of them have been to the UK. The rest have been to mainly the US, Malaysia or Indonesia.

All but one are returning residents. The only person with a short-term visit pass is a 23-year-old female New Zealand national who has been the UK. From 11:59pm today, short-term passes will no longer be issued so no one can enter Singapore unless he or she is a resident here (i.e. Singaporean, Singapore PR or long-term pass holder).

Most of the returning residents are Singaporeans, and some have come back together and got infected overseas together.

Yes, that’s how contagious the virus is so please do your social distancing well.

The other 6 cases are local cases, and all of them currently have no established links yet. They are

  • A 40-year-old male Myanmar national who works in Singapore
  • A 67-year-old female Singaporean
  • A 44-year-old male Ireland national who works in Singapore
  • An 80-year-old male Singaporean
  • A 35-year-old female Indonesia national who works in Singapore
  • A 52-year-old female Singaporean

Updates on Confirmed Cases

All in all, we now have 509 confirmed cases.

152 have fully recovered and have been discharged, while 15 are in ICU. 2 have unfortunately passed away from complications due to the disease.

The conditions of the remaining patients are either stable or improving.

As of noon today, MOH has identified 8,351 close contacts who have been quarantined. Of these, 2,529 are currently quarantined, and 5,822 have completed their quarantine.
