61YO S’porean Dies Due to COVID-19; Was an Imported Case From UAE

In an evening update from the Ministry of Health (MOH) on 13 March 2021, it was reported that Singapore now has one more COVID-19 fatality.

The patient, a 61-year-old Singaporean man, was an imported case from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

He was in the UAE for work and returned to Singapore on 30 Jan 2021.

Just before he left for Singapore, the man experienced shortness of breath and developed a cough.

He tested positive for COVID-19 upon arrival in Singapore.

On 12 Mar 2021, the man passed away from complications due to COVID-19.

It was added that he has a past history of hypertension, hyperlipidaemia and gout.

Details On Other Cases Reported On 13 Mar 2021

On 13 Mar 2021, 8 new COVID-19 cases were reported, all of them imported.

They consist of:

  • 1 Singaporean and 1 Singapore PR returning from India and Papua New Guinea
  • One student’s pass holder from India
  • 1 Work pass holder and 1 work permit holder from Bangladesh
  • 2 Short-term visit pass holders
  • 1 Special pass holder, a sea crew from Indonesia

All of the cases were placed on SHN or in isolation upon arrival in Singapore.

S’pore’s Overall COVID-19 Situation

With the addition of 13 Mar cases, the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in Singapore is 60,088.

The number of new cases in the community has decreased from 4 cases in the week before to 2 cases in the past week.

The number of unlinked cases has similarly decreased from 3 cases in the week before to 2 cases in the past week.

Almost 50% (33) of the 68 cases reported from 7 to 13 Mar 2021 returned positive serology tests, indicating that they’re likely past infections.

Another 27 returned negative and 8 serology results are still pending.

11 more patients have been discharged, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 59,961.

17 COVID-19 patients are being cared for at the hospitals with no case in the ICU.

Another 80 cases are being cared for at community facilities.

There are now 30 deaths due to COVID-19 in Singapore.
