As of 12pm on 15 Aug 2020, Singapore reports 81 new Covid-19 cases.

This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases in Singapore to 55,661.

The figure today includes 3 cases in the community; two Singaporeans or PRs and one work pass holder.

There are also 16 imported cases, 10 of which reached Singapore on a vessel.

MOH clarified that the 10 cases (seamen) had not gotten off their vessel since arrival in Singapore.

When they tested positive for the coronavirus, they were sent to the hospital immediately via ambulance.

The other 6 imported cases have been on Stay-Home-Notices (SHN) upon arrival in Singapore.

Foreign workers still in quarantine makes up a vast majority of the cases.

Summary Of 14 Aug Community & Imported Cases

Yesterday (14 Aug) was the first time since 1 Jun 2020 that Singapore reported zero cases in the community.

Among the four imported Covid-19 cases, there are two dependant’s pass holders and two work pass holders.

One of the dependant’s pass holder is a one-year-old boy who tested positive on Wednesday, 12 Aug 2020.

The remaining dependant’s pass holder was an Indian national too who returned from India.

The remaining two imported cases are work pass holders who returned to Singapore on 2 Aug 2020.

All four cases were serving their SHN at dedicated facilities before being detected.

Dormitories

313 Covid-19 patients have been discharged, making it 51,034 patients who have fully recovered from the virus.

No Shortcuts In Dealing With Covid-19

In case you missed it, experts in Singapore said herd immunity for Covid-19 seems impossible.

The official tally of the infection rates among foreign workers living in dormitories shows that one in six of the migrant workers were infected with the coronavirus.

And yet, there is no herd immunity developed.

This means that Singapore has to continue investing in containment, detection and destruction of Covid-19.

This also means that your mask, socialising in groups of five and having safe distancing wherever you go will have to continue.

Because if we don’t, we might be facing what many countries are going through right now, including New Zealand which came really close to stamping out Covid-19.
