After almost nine months of bad news, we finally have some good news yesterday as PM Lee announced the date for Phase 3 and Singapore’s COVID-19 vaccination strategy.
But of course, these plans can be carried out if our daily cases remain low, like today’s figures.
As of 12pm today (15 December 2020), the Ministry of Health (MOH) has preliminarily confirmed 16 new cases of COVID-19 infection.
15 of them are imported cases while 1 of them is a dorm case.
This brings the total number of cases in Singapore to 58,341.
Based on yesterday’s figures, the number of new cases in the community has remained low, with no new cases in the past week.
Phase 3 & Vaccines
In case you’re not aware, Phase 3 will start from 28 December 2020.
This means capacity limits in public places like malls, attractions and places of worship will be eased. Gatherings will be increased from a maximum of five to eight.
As for vaccines, the authorities have been working behind the scene to get them to Singapore, and Singapore would be near the front of the queue for the vaccines and not last in line.
And here’s the thing: it’ll be free for Singaporeans and long-term Singapore residents, and there will be enough vaccines for everyone in Singapore by the third quarter of 2021.
For now, the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for pandemic use, and the first shipment will arrive here by the end of this month.
Everyone should get vaccinated, but it’ll be on a voluntary basis.
