As of 12pm, 21 Jul 2020, the Ministry of Health (MOH) reports 399 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore.
Yup, that’s high, but there’s a reason for it, which we will get to later.
There are 9 cases in the community; 1 Singaporean/PR and 8 work pass holders.
There are also 3 imported cases, all of whom were placed on SHN upon their arrival in Singapore.
Foreign workers residing in dormitories make up a vast majority of the cases.
The Reason For The Unusually High Number
If you’ve been paying attention to the number of new cases reported daily, today’s figure seems especially high.
- 20 Jul: 123
- 19 Jul: 257
- 18 Jul: 202
- 17 Jul: 327
MOH explains that it’s because there was a batch of results which were reported to them after the 12pm cut off timing.
In other words, some of the results are yesterday’s (20 Jul 2020).
More Malls Added To MOH’s List
On 20 Jul, MOH also added 6 new entries to the list of places Covid-19 cases have visited during their infectious period, and four of them are shopping malls in the Orchard area.
Here are the new entries:
- Orchard Central
- Orchard Gateway
- Lucky Plaza
- Plaza Singapura
- beauty salon Bon Aesthetics at SingPost Centre
- and the Bar Bar Black Sheep coffee shop bar in Robertson Quay

Monitor Your Health Carefully:
MOH also said that if you’re in the same area within the same timeframe as the Covid-19 patients, you should monitor your own health carefully.
Should you find yourself developing symptoms for acute respiratory infections, you should see a doctor immediately.
As of July 2020, all individuals, 13 years old and above, will be required to undergo the swab test when they visit a doctor for ARI for the first time, although healthcare professionals have come out to say that the test is “uncomfortable, but relatively painless”.
As for the places that were identified, MOH says that people do not need to avoid them.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) will engage the operators to do a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the affected premises before it is open to the public again.
All close contacts have been identified, MOH added.
Again, while you can go out, similar to what was advised in our #movie article, it’s always good to take the necessary precautions while you’re out and about.
This means obeying safe distancing, make sure you have your mask on at all times and if you’re supposed to wear your mask while waiting for food? Wear your masks while waiting for food.
