Today is the third day of Phase Two, aka the real reopening, and how has the situation been? Have inconsiderable youths fighting publicly rendered our 2.5 months of “stay-home notice” useless?

Well, on the third day, things have, thankfully, still been stable so far, with no sudden big spike in the community.

Today, 262 cases are reported.

Out of these cases, 9 are cases in the community. 3 of them are Singaporeans or Singapore PRs.

The majority are residents living in dormitories.

This brings the total number of cases here to 42,095.

Based on yesterday’s numbers, on average, the number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of 8 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 4 per day in the past week.

The number of unlinked cases in the community has also decreased, from an average of 3 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 2 per day in the past week.

While everything looks goody, it’s not time to get complacent and crowd in Holland Village for a drink.

Just look at New Zealand, the country that everyone was praising just a week ago.

New Zealand = New Infection Land

Over two weeks ago, New Zealand Prime Minister declared her country virus-free, and people all over the world celebrated because a nation had finally defeated Covid-19.

But the jubilation was premature.

The country has recently recorded three new Covid-19 cases, after it eased all coronavirus-related restrictions.

So, if you’re wondering why the Singapore government is lifting restrictions so slowly, it’s because they know how easily the coronavirus can ravage the country again.

The circuit breaker and Phase 1 are now things we only think about if they come up in our nightmares, but they could easily return if infections spike.

So, eat your Chendol at the coffee shop, sure, but don’t go overboard with your socialising.
