12 COVID-19 Cases Today (21 Oct); All Imported Cases With No Local Transmissions

Lest you’re not aware, we’re now very close to Phase 3. Yesterday, it was announced that Phase 3 could happen before the end of this year.

And judging from the results so far, it seems very doable.

Today (21 October 2020), as of 12 pm, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has preliminarily confirmed 12 new cases of COVID-19 infection.

It’s a double-digit figure but they’re all imported cases.

This brings the total number of cases to 57,933.

On average, based on yesterday’s numbers, the number of new cases in the community has increased from 2 cases in the week before, to 4 in the past week.

The number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased from none in the week before, to 2 cases in the past week.

KTV & Nightclubs Not Reopening When Phase 3 Begins; Gov to Assist the Businesses

Unfortunately, the nightlife industry is not expected to reopen despite us entering Phase Three soon.

This includes bars, clubs, karaoke lounges and nightclubs.

In a press conference held yesterday (20 October 2020), Education Minister Lawrence Wong said that a lot of these places and activities put you in contact with others. This, in turn, makes the risk of infections higher.

He also said that there will be a long period of restrictions for these places.

“So even at the start of Phase 3, when we enter Phase 3, we do not expect to resume these activities any time soon.”

Of course, this doesn’t mean our gahmen won’t do anything to help these nightlife businesses.

Mr Wong says that measures will be put in place to assist business owners and will help them transition to new areas of work.

However, details of the assistance will be revealed at a later date.

He also mentioned that the authorities were not opposed to trying other options, albeit with “much more stringent” safety measures.
