Lest you didn’t know, there are now more than 11 million confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide, with the US having 2.89 million cases and Brazil having 1.58 million cases.
The number of new cases hit a record high yesterday, with a whopping 212K cases in 24 hours.
And today, it’s not a good day for Singapore, too.

MOH has preliminarily confirmed an additional 136 cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore.
This brings the total in Singapore to 44,800.
18 cases are in the community, with 6 being Singaporeans / Singapore PRs. Of these, 5 of them were close contacts of earlier cases and had already been placed on quarantine.
There are also 7 imported cases, all of whom had been placed on SHN upon arrival in Singapore.
The majority of cases are people living in dormitories.
Based on yesterday’s number, on average, the number of new cases in the community has increased, from an average of 6 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 9 per day in the past week.
The number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased, from an average of 3 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 5 per day in the past week.

8 Out of 9 Community Cases Yesterday Were Unlinked
Since 1 July 2020, if you present yourself to a doctor and are diagnosed with acute respiratory infection, you’d go through a swab test if you’re 13 or above.
And that new system has led to the detection of a number of cases.
Yesterday, out of the 9 community cases, 8 of them were unlinked.
3 of them were detected as they were tested as they worked in essential services, and 1 more was detected as he worked in COVID-19 frontline operations.
3 were detected after they visited a GP and were tested after they were diagnosed with acute respiratory infection.

In the meantime, 116 residents and visitors in the Tampines HDB block ‘cluster’ have been tested for COVID-19 and they were all negative.
