Exactly one month ago, on 1 July 2021, Singapore reported merely 10 COVID-19, with 4 of them being community cases.
How the tides have turned.
As of 12pm today (1 Aug), the Ministry of Health (MOH) has preliminarily confirmed 121 new cases of COVID-19 infection.
113 of them are community cases.
Of the 113 community cases, 70 are linked to previous cases, and have already been placed on quarantine. 5 are linked to previous cases and were detected through surveillance. 38 are currently unlinked.
Amongst the cases are 7 seniors above 70 years who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and are at risk of serious illness.
Based on yesterday’s number, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from 1,027 cases in the week before to 868 cases in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has increased from 99 cases in the week before to 273 cases in the past week.
The 7-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 85.0 and 39.0 respectively.
8 New Clusters Reported on 31 July Include a Work Release Centre by SPS; 1 Cluster Closed
Yesterday, eight new clusters were added to the tally, bringing the total up to 71 active clusters.
Among these new clusters, one of them involves the work release centre by Singapore Prison Service (SPS), the Institution S2 Selarang Park Complex.
It is home to inmates who are serving the tail end of their sentence in the community.
The goal of these work release centres is to give them a chance and the time to help them reintegrate back into society while still under supervision.
Of course, there are still some conditions attached to their movement as the inmates perform their work in the community during the day.
They return to the work release centre after work.
The cluster currently has six cases.
As there are no more cases linked to it for 28 days, the Changi General Hospital cluster has been closed.
604 Cases in Hospitals; 7,504,554 COVID-19 Vaccine Doses Administered
604 cases are currently warded in hospital. Most are well and under observation. There are currently 33 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and 7 in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU). 3 amongst these 40 cases are fully vaccinated. Of these, 2 require oxygen supplementation while 1 requires ICU care as they have underlying medical conditions. 26 seniors above 60 years, of whom 24 are completely unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, have fallen very ill.
In total, there are currently 71 active clusters, ranging between 3 and 1,027 infections.
As of 30 July 2021, 59% of our population has completed their full regimen/ received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme, and 77% has received at least one dose. In total, we have administered a total of 7,504,554 doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme, covering 4,299,667 individuals, with 3,327,272 individuals having completed the full vaccination regimen.
In addition, 102,840 doses of Sinovac vaccines have been administered as of 30 July 2021, covering 73,793 individuals.
