120 COVID-19 Cases Today (25 Aug); 118 Are Locally Transmitted Cases With 29 of Them Unlinked

It appears that 3-digit daily cases are the new normal.

As of 12pm today (25 Aug), the Ministry of Health (MOH) has preliminarily confirmed 120 new cases of COVID-19 infection.

118 of them are locally transmitted cases, with 29 of them unlinked.

Also, 26 of the cases are linked to North Coast Lodge dormitory.

Based on yesterday’s number, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from 322 cases in the week before to 290 cases in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has increased from 83 cases in the week before to 121 cases in the past week.

The 7-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 24.1 and 17.3 respectively.

BHG Department Store in Bugis Junction Closed for Cleaning

20 new cases of COVID-19 infection were discovered in Bugis Junction yesterday (24 Aug); all infected individuals in the cluster are staff members who work at the mall.

BHG Singapore closed its department store in Bugis Junction yesterday for deep cleaning, the retail company announced in a Facebook post.

BHG Singapore said it was informed that an employee had tested positive on Monday (23 Aug).

It has since place the employee’s close contacts on quarantine and instructed them to undergo swab tests.

“To safeguard the wellbeing of our shoppers and staff, and also in adherence to the Ministry of Health’s advisory, Bugis outlet will be closed for two days from 24 Aug to 25 Aug to facilitate deep cleaning of the store,” it said.

During this time, the fulfilment of online orders will also be suspended.

“We seek our customers’ understanding of any delays on their online orders,” BHG said.

The store will reopen tomorrow (26 Aug).

One staff member who works at the mall told The Straits Times that fewer people visited the mall today, which is a popular dining and shopping spot.

They are probably afraid after hearing news of the cluster, she surmised.

339 Cases in Hospitals; 8,605,217 COVID-19 Vaccine Doses Administered

339 cases are currently warded in hospital. There are currently 20 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and 7 in critical condition in the ICU.

Of those who have fallen very ill, 23 are seniors above 60 years, of whom 19 are completely unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

As of yesterday, there are currently 70 clusters, ranging between 3 and 1,155 infections

As of 23 August 2021, we have administered a total of 8,605,217 doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme (Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty and Moderna), covering 4,482,282 individuals, with 4,251,555 individuals having completed the full vaccination regimen.

In addition, 160,649 doses of other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing (WHO EUL) have been administered as of 23 August 2021, covering 85,114 individuals.

In total, 78% of our population has completed their full regimen/ received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and 82% has received at least one dose.
