21 COVID-19 Cases Today (19 Jun); 14 are Community Cases with 4 Unlinked

With yesterday’s update of the 21 June re-opening, it looks like we are slowly going back to the new normal but we still have to be extra cautious and today’s report will tell you why.

As of 12pm today (19 Jun), the Ministry of Health (MOH) has preliminarily confirmed 21 new cases of COVID-19 infection.

14 of them are community cases, with 4 currently unlinked. The remaining seven are imported cases.

This brings the total number of cases in Singapore to 62,403.

Based on yesterday’s figures, the number of new cases in the community has increased from 36 cases in the week before to 104 cases in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased from 9 cases in the week before to 19 cases in the past week.

2 of the 4 Unlinked Cases Stay in Bukit Merah Area

Two of the unlinked cases stay in the Bukit Merah area and are unrelated to the Bukit Merah View Market & Food Centre cluster.

The first is a retired 69-year-old male national from China who is a resident at the NTUC Health Senior Group Home at Bukit Merah View.

He was detected during the Home’s surveillance testing for its residents and his result came back positive on 17 June.

The retiree also developed a runny nose on the same day. He has received both doses of the vaccine.

The second case involves a 51-year-old female Singaporean homemaker.

She consulted a GP for an unrelated medical condition and was tested since she stays in the Bukit Merah area.

She is asymptomatic and her serology test results suggest that she’s currently in the early stages of the infection.

The other two remaining unlinked cases include:

• A fully-vaccinated 67-year-old male Singaporean retiree who developed a fever and runny nose on 17 June and he sought treatment the same day.
• An 83-year-old female Singaporean retiree felt fatigued and eventually developed shortness of breath on 17 June.

361 Active Cases

There are currently 152 confirmed cases who are still in hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and 1 is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

209 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for COVID-19.

34 have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.
