In a sense, COVID-19 is like Genghis Khan:
Both are globe-trotting, domineering and utterly ruthless.
Both have also slain countless innocent victims: businesses for COVID and humans for Khan.
So it’s really no surprise that COVID-19 has the capacity and tenacity to kill off even an actual Telco. Because like Khan…
It thinks nothing of conquering giants way bigger than it is.
COVID-19 Has Even Killed Off a S’pore Telco, Though It Might be One You’ve Not Heard of Before
Just yesterday (11 June 2020), virtual telco VivoBee Singapore announced on their Facebook page that it will be ceasing all its mobile services here by 31 August 2020.
According to the telco, existing customers can continue using VivoBee’s SIM card and app services (such as App IDD Call, Overseas mobile, Data top-up) until 31 August 2020.
Services such as Credit Top-up, Purchasing of Data, IDD, Local Mins, Local SMS, Super Combo Add-ons and related mobile services, however, will no longer be available.
Subscribers with $5 or more worth of credit balance in their VivoBee mobile app can request for a full refund from 13 June to 31 August 2020.
To ensure optimal safety during this period, customers should dial in to VivoBee’s Customer Service to book a ‘refund appointment’ at least one day in advance.
Should subscribers be unable to leave their premises because of the lockdown or other related circumstances, they are urged to spend all remaining credits on services in the mobile app.

According to its website, VivoBee Singapore is a telco service that targets migrant workers working in Singapore and Malaysia. Customers are able to purchase its plans and services via its in-app store, using Vivobee credits.
As usage rate accumulates, users will get to earn Bee Coins, which they can save and exchange for free gifts such as Free Local Data, IDD vouchers and even a new phone.
VivoBee is under VivoHub Mobile Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of the Malaysia-based Green Packet group.
Farewell, VivoBee. You’ll be sorely missed.
Sad Times Ahead
As the COVID-19 ravages our planet Earth, hundreds and thousands of businesses around the world have been forced to close their doors, in light of the pandemic-induced recession and sheer financial strain.
Employees have also lost their jobs, and are struggling to make ends meet as we speak.
Truly, these are dark times indeed.
But as PM Lee said, we should not lose heart. Although the next few years might be arduous in nature, it’s not impossible to get through it in one piece. After all…
We have survived numerous crises since the dawn of humanity; we can surely survive this one as well.
