During the Covid-19 outbreak, when we’ve been allowed to go out, the government has has conveyed one simple message: keep a safe distance from others.
And in return, we’ve said: “We hear what you’re saying, but uh, no thanks”.
Since the number of Covid-19 cases has starting falling, people are starting to take the restrictions in place a little too lightly.

This is why crowds have been spotted in public places, something which is worrying both netizens and the authorities.
And if you think the problem has been overblown, just look at this.
Huge Crowd Spotted At Paya Lebar Square On The Weekend Where Many People Loitered Outside
A video of a large crowd of shoppers loitering outside Paya Lebar Square has made the rounds on social media recently, alarming viewers all over the country.
The video was shared on the Facebook page All Singapore Stuff on Sunday (13 Sep) with the title “No social distancing at Paya Lebar Square”.
In the video, which looks like the opening of a new A&W outlet, big groups of people can be seen loitering outside the mall, talking loudly, using their phones, and even taking pictures.
All of them were wearing masks, which is certainly a good thing, but what good is wearing a mask if you’re practically kissing 15 strangers all at once?
And while some of them were queuing to check in via Safe Entry, they weren’t maintaining a distance of 1m when doing so, which is like resisting a piece of chocolate cake while on a diet and then gobbling down five bags of potato chips.

As the caption which accompanied the video stated: “Social distancing? What social distancing?”.
Netizen Reaction
As one netizen pointed out, soon after residents were allowed to leave their homes after the circuit breaker, crowds have been forming at malls, as people seem to have forgotten all about the deadly virus on the loose.
Another user pointed out that it was raining that day, making it difficult to practise social distancing as they were all seeking shelter at the same time.
Crowds Seen At Other Locations
Unfortunately, crowding in public places isn’t a recent or rare phenomenon.
Back in July, just a month after shifting to Phase 2 of our safe reopening, large crowds were seen at beaches even though we were reporting hundreds of cases a day at the time.

We may have seen a significant fall in the number of community cases – an average of one community case has been reported in the past week – but our battle with Covid-19 is far from over.
One good example is New Zealand, who just 24 days after declaring themselves coronavirus-free and lifting all restrictions, recorded two new cases, and have been reporting infections nearly every day since August.
This is quite simply a situation we can’t take too lightly.
Please remember to practise safe distancing when you go outside, and avoid crowded areas as far as possible.
The last thing we want is a spike in cases and another circuit breaker.
