32-YO Man Died in a Drain Next to CTE This Morning; Was Allegedly in a Convertible

A 32-year-old man was found dead after an accident in CTE this morning (6 June) at about 9:22am. A video showing SCDF blocking the exit while they work to retrieve the body has been making its rounds on the Internet.

The incident happened in the Jalan Bahagia exit, on the CTE towards the direction of SLE.

According to the police, the man was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic.

SCDF officers have to use a ladder to gain access into the drain where an SCDF paramedic pronounced the man dead, and the body was retrieved using a stretcher.

A black convertible is seen further away from the body, with its top retracted.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Convertible Cars Are Safe Except for the Lack of Roof

While a convertible car looks to be more dangerous, the high risk is actually negligible.

A 2007 study shows that there is no difference in the death rate among people driving a conventional car and a convertible car.

This is because convertible cars are designed in a way that protects their drivers as well as hardtop cars, with stability control, side airbags, roll bars and a heavier weight to prevent a rollover.

In fact, in the event of a rollover, some convertible cars have metal bars that deploy from behind the rear seats to protect passengers. For the front passenger and driver, the metal bars are usually already on the seats.

The risk is, however, the lack of “safety cage” around a driver, which is why a seatbelt, and working airbags, is much more important in a convertible car.
