Imagine showing your birth certificate and it reads: Central Expressway (CTE).
Whelp, instant icebreaker conversation topic.
Now, believe it or not, there are kids in Singapore who met up with such crazy circumstances during their birth.
And a new kid joined the ranks on 21 Jul 2020.
Woman Give Birth In Car After She Was Trapped in Massive Jam In CTE
On the evening of 21 July 2020, a husband-and-wife duo was stuck in the heavy traffic jam on the CTE.
There was a serious accident on the expressway near the Outram exit involving a car and container lorry towards the Ayer Rajah Expressway.
The way the vehicles were positioned in the aftermath results in only 1 usable lane for the expressway along that particular stretch.
A witness on the scene said that the “baby couldn’t wait”, and the lady had to give birth in the car.
The husband got off the red car in a panic and ran to the police shouting for help.
A few police and SCDF officers followed the man to the car where they rendered assistance.
The woman and her newborn were conveyed to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital in a SCDF ambulance.
The 34-year-old lorry driver and 38-year-old car driver, both of whom have sustained injuries, were taken to the hospital as well.
Investigations are ongoing for the traffic accident.
There Are More Babies Born In Vehicles Than You Think
If you think babies popping out in cars and saying hello is a once-in-ten-years happening, think again.
It’s a bit more common than that.
On 15 Jul 2020, ComfortDelgro uploaded an Instagram post on their account:
They said that within the span of 7 days (27 May and 3 Jun), two babies were born within their taxis.
The first, on 27 May, Mr and Mrs Lindberg were on the cab to the hospital when the baby decided a dramatic entrance into the world was needed.
On 3 Jun, Mr and Mrs Sim were on the way to the hospital.
On the expressway there, Mrs Sim gave birth. The driver, nonetheless, kept his cool and continued driving.
He also reminded Mr Sim to take note of the time of birth and to call ahead to the hospital so they can prepare for their arrival.
The driver said that while he has not encountered such an incident in his eight years of driving, “being able to witness new life is a joyous occasion” amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, and he’s glad that both mother and child are safe and well.
In 2019, a woman gave birth in a Grab car just 2 days before National Day on 7 Aug.
The couple were on their way to Thomson Medical Center when the wife’s water broke and she went into labour.
In the end, the husband himself delivered his daughter in the car.
It was also reported that this was the fourth time a baby was born in a Grab car.
So, yes, car babies are a thing.
Wouldn’t it be cool if the three kids of 2020 were to meet and compare:
I was born on the CTE.
Really? Mine was SLE.
Oh, man, I wish I was as cool as you guys. I was born in Ang Mo Kio Ave 4.
Not putting all the exact locations but you get what I mean.
