As we learned in Physics back in the good old days, friction is reduced between two surfaces when we use lubricants like oil or water.
This is why it’s dangerous for people to drive at high speeds on wet roads.
Now, if you’re wondering why I’m talking about physics when it’s about a lorry, it’ll make sense really soon.
Due to the many rainy days that we’ve been getting (and will still be getting), roads are wet.
If we were to combine the physics lesson and the weather, you’d probably have guessed what I’m going to talk about next.

Lorry Skidded Across Three Lanes On CTE Purportedly Due To Speeding
On a rainy afternoon on 3 Sep (Thursday), a lorry driving on the CTE had a close shave.
It was caught on camera skidding dangerously and spinning across three lanes on the expressway.
The accident, which was captured on a dashcam, was shared in a Facebook video by SG Road Vigilante (SGRV).
In the video, the lorry seemingly tried to overtake the Trans-Cab taxi, which was on the second lane, by turning left.
Unfortunately, its wheels seemed to lose traction at that time and the lorry spun out of control in the middle of the busy expressway.
Lorry appeared to be speeding
It was mentioned on the same Facebook video that the car that recorded the accident was going at 80km/h while the lorry had exceeded 70km/h, which is the maximum legal speed for its vehicle type.
In the video, the Select Catering lorry could be seen speeding up briefly just before it spun out of control onto the next lane.
Trying to get back into control, the driver swerved in the opposite direction and ended up cutting across three lanes.
After what seemed to be a very terrifying couple of seconds, the lorry finally skidded to a halt on the fourth lane, narrowly missing the divider and ending up with the front of the vehicle against the traffic flow.
Thankfully, no other vehicles were involved in the accident and the van which was driving behind the lorry had paid attention to the road and slowed down after seeing the loss of control.

Netizens’ Comments
Understandably, netizens were quick to comment on how it was reckless of the driver to speed up in such dangerous conditions.
However, some of them also commended (could be done sarcastically) the driver’s skill.
Drive safely during rainy days
It goes without saying that everyone has to be extremely careful when driving, especially when conditions aren’t so ideal.
In August, there was an accident involving multiple cars suddenly swerving on the Jalan Anak Bukit Flyover. It was noted that the drivers involved were supposedly speeding on wet roads.
While many of us have learnt to be careful while getting our license, it doesn’t hurt to read up on how to drive safely when it’s raining.
If you’re driving out on wet roads, remember to check your tyres for its tread depth as we know that one cannot play play when it comes to lives.
