I think we can all agree that whatever we do in the privacy of our homes is our business.
For example, if someone knocked on your door and started scolding you for farting in your living room, you’d be pretty upset. You’d also wonder what the heck you ate.
But what if your neighbour was upset with you for smoking in your home? What would be justified then?
Anger? Maybe. Switching off their power supply? Probably not.
Man Allegedly Switched Off Neighbour’s Power Supply Due to Smoking Dispute
A video of a dispute between two neighbors at an HDB residential block has gone viral on social media.
The video was shared on Facebook on Tuesday (5 Oct) by Facebook user Joanna Pay.
In the video, Pay’s uncle accuses his neighbour of switching off his power supply, claiming it was done in retaliation for smoking in his own home.
Pay’s uncle, the one who’s filming the incident, says the neighbor switched off the power source more than 10 times, presumably by using the power box outside their flats.
The neighbour didn’t exactly deny this, saying he only did it “twice”.
When Pay insisted that he had turned off the power supply more than 10 times, the neighbour replied, “You keep smoking mah.”
We’re guessing what had upset the neighbour was that some of the secondhand smoke from Pay’s flat had wafted into the neighbour’s flat.
But Pay pointed out in the altercation that the “police” never said it was wrong to smoke at home.
Alleged That Three Of His Electrical Appliances Were Damaged By The Outage
During the argument, Pay claimed that the outage had caused damage to three electrical appliances inside his house, namely his refrigerator, washing machine, and television.
He said that he bought these appliances less than a year ago, and offered to “let the matter go” if the neighbour paid for his “losses”.
The neighbour, who seemed less agitated, didn’t seem to accept the offer.
Pay’s uncle seemed to get increasingly incensed as the altercation escalated, with him shouting at one point: “This is government’s property, you cannot touch!”

He told his neighbour that he could expect a visit from the police, and the neighbour, who was a little more vehement in his protestations at the start, grew quieter as the video went on, and abruptly ended the disagreement with an “okay” before walking back to his unit.
Niece Confirms Claims
In her post, Pay confirmed many of the accusations leveled by her uncle at their neighbor.
She claimed that the neighbour had switched off their power supply because her uncle was smoking in his flat.
“What is wrong with people nowadays. Don’t you have things better to do, then (sic) switching off my uncle house electricity,” she wrote.
“Doesn’t mean my uncle smoke in his own unit you have the right to switch off the electricity. If you can’t take it then please move out…” she said.

Pay said her uncle now has to purchase a new television set, fridge, and washing machine due to the damage supposedly caused by the outage.
It is unknown if Pay’s uncle has lodged a police report.
