Singaporeans are well-known for our kiasu spirit, our love for queuing, and, notoriously, road rage.
The last point may be something we’d rather not acknowledge but can’t deny, especially if you’ve been behind the wheel for some time.
This time, however, it’s not a road rage encounter between two car drivers. The exchange of verbal and physical threats occurred between a cyclist and a car driver.
Cyclist Bangs Fist at Car Bonnet After Honking Incident, Leading to a Big Dent
For the cyclists, it seemed like another day of their exercise routine as they went on a group cycling trip on a peaceful Sunday morning.
However, what began as a wholesome activity turned sour when a cyclist dressed in an orange and black cycling jersey resorted to physical actions to vent his frustration. The trigger was a series of honks from a car driver.
The cyclist balled his fist and banged a car bonnet twice after being honked by a car driver.
The incident, captured on a dashcam on the car, occurred on 10 September at 8.45am and was subsequently shared on the Facebook group SG Road Vigilante and on TikTok, too.
Intense Confrontation Unfolds Between Cyclist and Driver
In the video, a group of cyclists had stopped at a traffic junction at Sungei Tengah Road, with the cyclist in the orange and black cycling jersey being one of the last few from the group to cross the intersection.
A grey car equipped with a dashcam approached the cyclists, stopping closely behind the orange-clad cyclist.
Impatient with the cyclists obstructing his path, the car driver honked twice, causing the cyclist to turn towards his right, facing the driver. The cyclist gestured for the driver to move forward slightly before angrily striking the car’s bonnet twice with his fist.
He hammered the car bonnet so hard that it dented.
In the heat of the moment, tempers flared when the driver confronted the cyclist, leading to a heated exchange of profanities, including some F words. Two other cyclists from the group, dressed in yellow and white, attempted to intervene, presumably to resolve the situation.
Meanwhile, the verbal attacks between the orange-clad cyclist and the driver continued. The video ends without revealing how the situation was ultimately resolved.
Netizens Show Support toward the Driver
After the video was uploaded on Facebook, it was widely shared on other social media platforms and garnered views from different Singaporean netizens.
Many expressed support for the driver, commending his patience in handling a challenging encounter.
Singaporeans may need to look inward at how we should handle road-related issues, as it is not the first road rage incident to occur in recent months.
Another road rage incident just last month involved a car driver allegedly attempting to harm a motorcyclist on Pasir Panjang Road.
