It appears that Twelve Cupcakes co-founder Daniel Ong is not catching a break.
Having been embroiled in a financially-related scandal for a seemingly long time, he was subsequently given a hefty fine of S$65,000 for his crime: his part in a failure to pay the full salaries of seven employees between September 2013 and November 2016.
And though it has certainly not been the highest point in his illustrious celebrity career, he may have been relieved to know that at the very least, the commotion may have finally come to an end.
But as realists would have long come to terms with, life isn’t quite as smooth-sailing as prophets would have thought.
Daniel Ong Claims He Didn’t Say ‘F**k You All’ to Photographers After Leaving Court
After court proceedings on 21 May 2021, the 45-year-old was reported to have cursed under his breath at media photographers.
Though not explicitly mentioned, sources have speculated that he may have actually said: “F*** y’all.”
“When the media was taking photos of Ong as he left the court,” Channel News Asia reported. “He muttered an expletive under his breath, directed at the photographers.”
Ong has since denied the allegations.
According to Ong’s personal Instagram profile, he has denied any usage of expletives at the site, and claimed to have used “get a life guys, geeze” instead.
He also took a jab at CNA’s reporting abilities, stating that it was “not very professional” on their part.
In addition, he questioned how reporters could have possibly comprehended his exact sentence when he had a mask on and was muttering under his breath.

Incident
According to reports, Ong had created Twelve Cupcakes in 2011 with ex-wife Jamie Teo.
Between September 2013 and November 2016, seven employees reportedly had S$350 to S$1,400 of their monthly salaries ‘confiscated’. Ong was serving as director at the time.
The scheme was reportedly coined by a third-party employment agency. Both Ong and Teo professed that it went on without their knowledge.
In court, Ong’s lawyer had pleaded for leniency.
“This was his first business venture and he was learning things as a director for the first time,” said the lawyer. “He sincerely apologises for his mistakes and is paying the price now.”
Ong was eventually fined S$65,000. His ex-wife Jamie Teo was also ordered to compensate the same amount in March.
In a separate Instagram post, he has also admitted his flaws, stating that he was negligent and that he had “signed many documents without a second glance, [and] let the agency handle the paperwork”.
“Regardless, I’m sorry for negligence and I’ve definitely learnt from this episode,” he added.

It should be noted that Ong and Teo had sold the company to India-based Dhunseri Group, a few months after their divorce in 2016.
The bakery chain was fined S$119,500 in January 2021 for continuing the underpaying ‘convention’.
