Growing up in Singapore, we have all been taught filial piety since young.
But how many of us actually sincerely demonstrate it?
Well, regardless of your answer, one daughter just put us all to shame with her recent gift to her mother.
Posted Tiktok Of Gift
A TikTok user, who goes by Min, posted a video on the platform showing her decade-long journey to buying a Louis Vuitton bag for her mother.
@minxchen_ I just know I work really really hard while schooling in poly and running my home based business because I never wanted them to feel otherwise about themselves again. I’ve grown so much throughout this journey and they’re the reason why I’m here today. They were my pillar of strength in everything I do. I hope they’re proud of me because I’m so lucky to have the best parents :”) #mother #love #family #surprise#fyp #sgfyp #smallbusiness ♬ original sound – Min
In the TikTok video, Min wrote that she was in primary school when her mother first pointed out a bag that she really liked. Min then told her mother to go in and take a look.
However, her mother replied that she “didn’t look good enough” to enter the store.
Min did not understand why at the time, but she knew that she never wanted to make her mum feel that way.
Ran a Home-Baking Business
In order to do so, Min started her own home-baking business whilst still schooling in polytechnic and gradually became financially independent.
Her baking business, Pastriets, sells desserts made for special occasions and has already garnered over 13,900 followers on Instagram.

Mother’s Response
In the video, Min’s mother was shown to be very excited while opening the box containing her gift.
After seeing the Louis Vuitton bag she had wanted all those years ago, she expressed her delight and shared an embrace with her daughter.
More footage showed Min’s mother “showing off” her bag to the camera in the most adorable way.
Min also captioned, “I did it after a decade.”
This journey has not been easy for Min, but her motivations and perseverance are definitely something to admire and emulate.
