You know; I’ve always wondered something.

What happens if ang pows get lost?

I mean; it’s a legit concern, isn’t it? Ang pows are physical, with equally physical cash stowed inside. Should the ang pow get lost, that would surely be it.

It’s gone.

Indeed, one can’t help but wonder the panic state of our dear relatives, who take such great care to slot money notes into red packets. It must’ve been pure torture.

But well, if you happen to be one of the aforementioned relatives, guess what?

DBS is trial launching a cool new feature, and it might just absolve your worries once and for all.

Meet the New-Gen Ang Pows

In light of the up-and-coming CNY, DBS is doing a pilot launch of the world’s first loadable QR Ang Bao…

And it looks absolutely dope.

As the name implies, you simply have to scan the QR code on your phone, and you’ll get the amount slotted into your bank account. Apart from having easy access, you’ll not be breaking traditions either, seeing how the red packet itself is still a physical product.

So yes, you’ll still be able to abuse this immortalised phrase below:

“恭喜发财, 红包拿来”

Okay… but… how does it work exactly?

Well, according to DBS, it works pretty systematically.

Users, who wish to impart these QR coded ang pows to the next gen, will be able to load their desired cash values onto unique QR codes.

And to provide perspective, each QR Ang Bao will have a unique QR code and serial number. Should it, gawd forbid, get lost/stolen, users can easily cancel a particular QR Ang Pow’s loaded funds via the DBS PayLah! app.

A chronic fear of losing your money-filled Ang Pows? You no longer have to worry about that!

Incidentally, here’s a video to visually illustrate how it will all really gel together.

Wicked. Annoying. Orange.

So really… what’re you waiting for?

With these QR Ang Pows, queueing for new banknotes will be a reality you never have to go through again! So just go for it!

Details:

The pilot DBS QR Ang Pow will be available in limited quantities from 25 January 2019, at DBS/POSB branches and POSB Pop-Up ATMs.

There’ll also be prizes to be won, with S$8,888 up for grabs when you give or receive the most QR Ang Pows or eAng Pows (from 1-19 Feb).

You can also stand a chance to be one of the 10 daily winners of S$188, over the 15 days of Chinese New Year (5-19 Feb).

As for T & Cs, you can peruse them further here.

(Yes, if you read the T&Cs, you’ll know you can load $0.01 in as well)

And with that in mind, I guess CNY is about to get a whole lot more…

Hi-tech.
