Here’s a quick question.
When your office suddenly catches fire and you’re caught between two choices: either to save your pregnant colleague trapped under a table or save yourself, which would you choose?
I’m pretty sure that just like anyone else, we’d probably save ourselves.
After all, that’s human nature. And our fight-or-flight instincts typically push us to make the best choice for ourselves.
But once in a while, you’ll hear of heroic individuals who go against their instincts to protect themselves.
Like this trio of nurses.
What Happened
Eastern Taiwan was hit by a magnitude 6.1 earthquake on 18 Apr 2019, the largest earthquake to hit Taiwan this year.
According to South China Morning Post (SCMP), the earthquake was so strong the tremors could be felt all the way at Taipei, about 115km away from the epicentre of the earthquake.
Thankfully, there were no major damages like the earthquake last year. Then, 17 people were killed when four buildings collapsed.
Taipei’s subway train services were suspended but authorities were quick to reassure the public that operations were normal at Taiwan’s first and second nuclear power plants.
About 17 individuals were injured in the earthquake, including two Malaysians who suffered injuries from falling rocks at Taroko National Park.
CCTV Footage Goes Viral
However, just when the Taiwanese were getting over their latest natural disaster, a CCTV footage floated on the internet.
The footage reportedly came from a home confinement centre in Taiwan.
It showed the centre shaking badly with several newborn cribs rolling around.
One of the three nurses in the video could be seen grabbing onto two of the crips crouching down and comforting the infants.
Two other nurses in the centre were initially holding on to an infant each but came from behind the counter to hold on to the rest of the infants lying in the cribs.
They could be seen crouching over the cribs, ready to protect them from any debris.
Thankfully, it was reported that both the nurses and the babies were not harmed.
Netizens Comments
Netizens were quick to heap their praises onto these three nurses. They were hailed as angels for their noble actions.
Netizens were also seen thanking the nurses for their dedication to their jobs and their heartwarming actions.
One thing for sure, you don’t have to carry a gun or be able to fight like Jet Li to be a hero.
