Dee Kosh Talks About Sexual Orientation & Encounter With Paedophile in Prison During Xiaxue Interview

You should know who Dee Kosh is.

A few years back, the radio-disc-jockey-turned-social-media-personality was charged and found guilty of sexual offences involving teenage boys.

Dee Kosh, or Darryl Ian Koshy (his real name), was found to have solicited paid sex from teenage boys from 2017 to 2020. He also admitted to filming himself having sex with another victim without the latter’s knowledge, which was taken into consideration for Dee Kosh’s eventual sentence.

For his crimes, he was punished with a 32-week jail term.

Now, in 2023, Dee Kosh has done his time and is back in society.

He has also resurfaced in the public eye in a prominent YouTube interview with Xiaxue, one of Singapore’s OG influencers (there was a podcast he did after he was released from jail, but this interview also covers the contents of that podcast).

In the YouTube video, Xiaxue and Dee Kosh are sitting on an orange couch. Xiaxue is clad in a pink top with long pink hair to match her outfit. Dee Kosh looks relaxed next to her, wearing a purple short-sleeved t-shirt and resting his (bald) head on one arm.

The video is a whopping one and a half hours long, and we’ve spared you the trouble of watching the video by bringing you the highlights.

Here’s the main tea they spilt.

Dee Kosh Says He Is Bi and Not Gay

One of the first eyebrow-raising topics that the video went through was Dee Kosh’s sexuality.

But before that, let us set some expectations about this interview.

The interview between the two starts off with Xiaxue saying that she and Dee Kosh “are like close friends”, so make what you will of how objective this interview may be.

Xiaxue even acknowledges that some of her viewers may find the interview to be “biased” but that she will try her best to “ask all of the difficult questions”.

Hinting at the friendship is the way Xiaxue fondly calls him by the nickname “Dee”.

Back to the question about Dee Kosh’s preferences for other humans. He addresses that he was “very much in the closet” and did not even tell Xiaxue about it (maybe the pair are not that close as well).

However, he did previously have girlfriends and therefore thought the best way to describe his sexuality was “technically bi”.

Dee Kosh was also “open” to “trans”, which presumably referred to transgender individuals who may have chosen to transition from male to female or female to male.

Dee Kosh then goes further to set the record straight that he is not into having sexual relations with animals but is theoretically fine with being with older people.

While many of us would have had some suspicions that Dee Kosh swung the other way, given that his crimes involved youngsters of the same gender as himself, it’s nice to know that he is now officially out of the closet in relation to his sexual inclinations.

Elaborating more on when he realised he liked guys, Dee Kosh appears to have developed that awareness in his late teens, around when he was 19 or 20 years old.

He had a “weird inkling” but did not act on it due to his family’s “deeply religious and very conservative” nature.

Dee Kosh continues to divulge more about his past, sharing that the first time he had relations with a man, he cried and “repented” as he was taught that liking men was “wrong” and “against the Bible”.

He also mentioned that this started before he came to Singapore when he was in the Philippines.

Once Dee Kosh arrived on the shores of sunny Singapore, he was freer to explore his sexuality.

He went to gay nights at Butter Factory while dating girls on the side. That sounds like what someone with a preference for both genders would do.

Dee Kosh’s Experience in Jail

Another point that many people would be keen to know more about is Dee Kosh’s time in jail. It is not uncommon that we hear of rumours that crimes are committed against inmates because of the charges that they are found guilty of.

Given that Dee Kosh’s crimes of sexual offences with minors could be quite sensitive, we wonder if it caused him to experience prison differently from someone else who may have committed a less “controversial” crime.

One of the things you would like to know is that Dee Kosh spent his time in prison reading.

Inmates were allowed to be sent books to read while doing time, and they usually donated the books after they finished serving their sentence.

Some inmates also have access to magazines, and it appears that Sonia Chew is popular in prison as “everyone loves her”. There was supposedly a picture of her holding a handbag which was put on the wall. Dee Kosh calls her a “prison icon”.

Not sure if that is considered good news for Sonia Chew, but good to know anyway.

Another interesting thing about prison is their “no flushing the toilet at night” rule. This seems to be an unspoken rule that inmates abide by in order to “survive”.

The reason? It seems that flushing the toilet creates quite a bit of ruckus, which could disturb the beauty sleep of the other inmates. The toilet flush seems to be quite strong as it has the ability to flush down even an orange (according to Dee Kosh, anyway).

Encountered Paedophile During Christmas in Jail

Here’s what caught our attention as well.

It seems that Dee Kosh met a paedophile during Christmas in jail. No, there was no harm done to him (duh, since Dee Kosh is very clearly not a kid), but the encounter left Dee Kosh shaken nonetheless.

According to Dee Kosh, Christians were “let out” on Christmas Day, and he had the chance to watch a Spiderman movie. One of the inmates then approached Dee Kosh and struck up a conversation.

Based on what the other inmates were saying, this particular inmate was supposed to have been sent to prison for having sex with a 16-year-old girl by accident, as he thought that she was legal.

This other inmate had also paid for sex with the girl (similar to Dee Kosh’s situation). Given the similarities in the circumstances between this inmate’s reason for being sent to jail and that of Dee Kosh, the two shared a “commonality”.

Apparently, this inmate was also a “teacher” who was “very thin”, “very tall”, and “a bit balding”. He was also supposedly 36 or 37 years old.

What Dee Kosh did not expect was this teacher asking him “how young do you like them” which seems to insinuate that this teacher intended to have sex with minors. This was at odds with the man’s backstory that he did not know he was having paid sex with a minor.

According to Dee Kosh, this conversation left him “speechless” and “very shock” as the man was “confessing to [him]”.

Dee Kosh also felt “very sick” by this encounter. While the other inmate wanted to find a kindred spirit with Dee Kosh, Dee Kosh was quick the draw a line between them by saying that “[they] are not the same”.

After all, Dee Kosh insists that he is not a paedophile by any means.

Overall, what we gleaned from the entire episode between Xiaxue and Dee Kosh is that the latter’s experience in prison was no walk in the park. Indeed, Dee Kosh confirms this, sharing with Xiaxue that he would “never” want to go back into prison as it is a “horrible” place.

This Is Xiaxue’s First Interview Since She Revealed Her Divorce

While viewers may be interested to know what Dee Kosh has to say about his conviction, we can’t help but give Xiaxue some time in the spotlight as well. We note that this interview with Dee Kosh is Xiaxue’s first since she announced ending her marriage with her husband of 17 years.

The last video that was posted on her YouTube channel, @Xiaxue, was nine months ago.

Well, it seems like Singapore has regained two of its influencers for now.
