We all know how dangerous the roads in Singapore are: other than reckless drivers, we have drunk drivers, reckless PMD riders and even…a wild deer.
No, seriously. A wild deer just caused an accident in BKE.
Wild Deer Walked Onto BKE, Caused 3-Vehicle Accident
Singapore might be a well-known city state but not all our animals are confined to zoos and wildlife reserves.
Some of them, from time to time, still wanders onto the wrong path and get into trouble.
Like this Sambar Deer.
On 17 June, a wild Sambar Deer wandered onto the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) near Mandai Road.
A motorcyclist swerved to avoid the deer, causing the drivers of a taxi and a car to slam on their brakes.
The taxi driver suffered cuts on his head and was taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital in a conscious state.
The deer appeared to have suffered from serious injuries, given how it didn’t move away from the road.
At 7.30 am, the Wildlife Reserves team were able to contain the animal and covered its eyes to keep it calm.
This isn’t the first time a wildlife animal was involved in an accident with vehicles on the road.
Road users who are passing through Lentor Avenue, the Ayer Rajah Expressway (around Tuas) and BKE (near the Eco-Link) are advised to slow down when you come across animals on the roads.

World Cup 2018 Reminds Us of Goal 2010
Back in 1998, then-prime minister Goh Chok Tong started talking about getting the Singapore soccer team into the World Cup.
And like one person put it.
It’s been 20 years.
Mr Goh said in his national day rally that after watching the French victory at the world cup, he changed his mind. He had initially said that Singapore will never have a chance at the World Cup.
The French team is a multicultural team, with many players brought in from other countries and made a France citizen.
And Singapore will do just that, to bring in sports talent.
For those wondering when Singapore started bringing in foreign talents to help us win at sports, this could be the moment that started it all.
Fast forward 20 years later, and Singapore’s soccer is ranked the 167th in the entire world. Back in 1998, when Singapore dreamed the ultimate soccer dream, our soccer was ranked 81st in the world.
Well, at least we’re performing pretty well in other sports events, no?
Man Allegedly Threatened Another Driver With Weapon at Woodlands Checkpoint, Damage His Car’s Side Mirror
Anger drives people to do crazy things. As a very smart detective once said, crimes are committed not because they’re bad people.
But usually, it’s because they lose their temper.
Just like this guy.
On 15 June, a 51-year-old man was arrested at Woodlands Checkpoint. He allegedly threatened another driver with a weapon, and damaged his side mirror.
The man reportedly cut into the driver’s lane, then threatened him. Following which, he exited from his own vehicle with a weapon and damaged the victim’s car side mirror.
He was captured on photographs holding a weapon in his hand.
Police investigations are ongoing.
Road rage are all the rage right now. Just last month, a driver, Fizul Asrul Efandi, was handed a one-year driving ban plus jail term after punching another motorist.
The reason? Fizul parked his car indiscriminately and was blocking the road for other vehicles.
The victim, 54-year-old Chong Kok Soon, sounded his horn, which made Fizul agitated. And he punched Chong twice in the face.
Everyone Dislikes Puppy Mills, But Why Do They Still Exist?
I’m pretty sure you know about puppy mills, don’t you? If you don’t, they’re exactly like what their name suggests.
A factory to produce puppies that can sell for money. Here’s the reason why dog lovers hate these places.
Most puppy mills are found to be in horrendous conditions, and dogs are treated as nothing more than breeding machines. They keep their dogs in cramped conditions and pay little attention to their health or care.
Since 2010, the truth about puppy mills’ cruelty has spread, and the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) has put places that sells animals on tighter regulations.
In June 2017, a breeder was fined $180,000 after dogs under his care was found to be in poor conditions.
So, the question remains, with the so-called truth about puppy mills out, why do they still exist?
Simple, because everybody wants a puppy to play with. As long as there are demands for puppies, there’ll be puppy mills.
Currently, Singapore is on the right track to preventing cruelty to dogs (read above) but there’s still more to be done.
People have to be educated, that’s one. Also, the Singapore Society of Stray Dogs (SOSD) are taking in stray dogs and trying to get owners for them, that’s another one.
And finally, regulations regarding the adoption of dogs must be further refined so people won’t have as much obstacles to adopting a dog.
You can read the full article here, it’s pretty insightful.
Just remember this: don’t get a pet because it’s cute. You’re not getting a puppy; you’re getting a commitment.
FB Post About Man Rejected Aid Because He Has CPF Payouts, MSF Reveals Their Side of The Story
Remember this letter which went viral on Facebook?
The man is a visually impaired Toa Payoh resident suffering from kidney failure. He was referred to the Toa Payoh Social Service Office in February but was denied ComCare Long Term Assistance.
Singapore People’s Party (SPP) Jose Raymond shared the letter of rejection on Facebook.
He said that the resident had requested for assistance via his MP Saktiandi Supaat. However, because the resident was receiving a monthly payout of $620 from his Central Provident Fund (CPF) savings, he is not eligible for the scheme.
The Ministry of Social and Family (MSF) has responded to the case.
They said that his needs are being met from other sources. Other than the monthly payout of $620 from his CPF, he also gets $550 from a close friend staying overseas.
His weekly dialysis sessions and taxi fares are covered by the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and a buddhist temple covers his monthly flat rental and conservancy fees.
He is provided food rations every month by the Singapore Association for the Visually Handicap, and two meals are provided for him every day by TOUCH Home Care.
The MSF said that when assessing applicants, funds and overall support given by the Government, community, family and friends are taken into account.
World Cup 2034 Could Be Hosted By M’sia, Indonesia, Thailand & Vietnam
In 2034, the World Cup could be happening in our neighbouring countries. That’s if Malaysia’s appeal succeed in getting it to happen.
Crown Prince and Regent of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah talked about this on his Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house on 16 June.
He said that it’s time for the Asean region to be given the chance to host the World Cup. The opportunity could allow countries to improve the infrastructure and strengthen their respective national teams.
He said that this proposal is similar to the United States, Canada and Mexico being joint hosts in 2026.
Nothing was mentioned about Singapore, but if Singapore was to be one of the co-hosts as well, our team will be given automatic entry into the World Cup.
True, that’s 24 years after the deadline of Goal 2010, but better late than never, right?
