A 47-year-old delivery rider was rushed to National University Hospital after his motorcycle collided with a lorry along Commonwealth Avenue on 13 Nov 2025.
The Singapore Police Force received the alert at approximately 7.30pm, with the accident occurring along Commonwealth Avenue heading in the direction of Commonwealth Avenue West. The Singapore Civil Defence Force was notified at the same time and transported the motorcyclist to the hospital in a conscious state.
Details of the Accident
Photos from the aftermath showed the motorcycle lying on the road next to the lorry, with a pink Foodpanda delivery bag nearby. The lorry’s open-box bed was tipped, suggesting it may have been unloading cargo when the collision occurred.
A reader alerted Shin Min Daily News at 7pm that evening about the seriously damaged motorcycle at the location.
Rider’s Condition
The delivery rider sustained multiple severe injuries across his body, including abrasions, a kidney injury, and a deep wound on his left forehead that exposed the bone. He was initially placed in the Intensive Care Unit before being transferred to a regular ward.
The motorcyclist underwent a Magnetic Resonance Imaging scan and was awaiting stitches and surgery, with doctors requiring further observation to determine the full extent of his injuries.
His wife, a 38-year-old nail technician identified as Mrs Chen, confirmed that while the injuries were serious, they were not life-threatening.
Recovery is expected to take one to two months.
The delivery rider has no recollection of the accident, only remembering “everything going black” before getting hit and then being sent to the hospital. He cannot recall how the collision occurred.
Mrs Chen said the couple is awaiting police investigation results and hoping that witnesses can provide additional information about what happened.
Wife’s Discovery
Mrs Chen initially had no idea her husband had been injured and hospitalised. He left for work as usual on Thursday but did not answer his phone that evening.
When he still failed to respond the following morning, she called a friend who contacted the nearest hospital and discovered what had occurred. She immediately took leave from work and rushed to the hospital, where she found her husband had just been moved from the ICU to a regular ward.
Police Investigation
A 25-year-old male lorry driver is currently assisting police with their ongoing investigation into the incident.
