Before you ask, nope, it has nothing to do with COVID-19.
Isn’t that refreshing?
While doctors are usually suspended for anyhow-ly giving MCs or medicines, this one was suspended for not giving an MC.
That’s something new.
I should have shown such news to the army doctors who refused to give me an MC when I was genuinely sick.
Doctor, Give MC Leh
Dr Kevin Yip Man Hing was slapped with five charges and has been charged with two for… not giving MC when he should have.
For the first charge, he only gave a driver with a fractured finger a mere 2 days of medical leave followed 2 days of light duties, and only extended his light-duty duration after a follow-up.

In the second case, a man injured his left shoulder when grabbing hold of a lorry but was only given a week of light duties after an X-Ray scan by Dr Yip. An MRI by another physiotherapist showed to be a dislocation of a tendon, a tear to a second tendon, and an injury to a third.
Even after surgery performed for this, Dr Yip still only gave him 15 days of light duties instead of medical leave.
Here’s the weird/funny part – for both cases, Dr Yip made an arrangement with the worker’s employer so that he would not need to work.
Then… why not just give him medical leave?
In that situation, the employer had the right to force the worker to carry out duties and deny him a salary if he had refused.
For these charges, he was suspended from practice for eight months.
A Doctor Never Changes His Spots
Also, this isn’t even the first time he has been charged with such offences.
Back in 2011, a 47-year-old construction worker fell from a scaffolding platform and suffered serious injuries to his collarbone, rib, head, and wrist.
Two days after the operation, the worker was discharged and was merely given light duties for three days instead of, you know, medical leave.
I’m starting to think he’s allergic to giving MC or something.
Despite two other follow-up reviews, Dr Yip simply extended his light-duty duration. Afterwards, the worker went to the hospital emergency department due to persistent giddiness, nausea, and chest pains and was given hospitalisation leave.
He later on, understandably, went to file a complaint against Dr Yip.
I’m seeing a pattern here: Give LD instead of MC > Extend LD during follow-up > Get Charged.
Why does he refuse to give an MC? Is he allergic? Does he have a phobia? We shall never know.
