Sexual health is undeniably important but it could also get a little embarrassing.
This is especially so if you feel the need to take a test for HIV or any other sexually transmitted disease.
After all, a sexual romp is one thing; to let a doctor know of your conquests is another.
Yet alas, there’s nothing you can do about such embarrassment…
Until now anyway.
Now, There’s A ‘Doctor-Less’ Clinic in S’pore With 7 Different Tests
As technology continues to make revolutionary turns, the testing industry has, too, made its own improvements.
So much so that you can now get tested… without a doctor!
Called DTAP Express, this clinic in Tanjong Pagar focuses on the self-testing concept. And the best part? It doesn’t just involve sex-related tests.
In addition to tests for sexual health, the clinic also offers tests for general health, men’s health and women’s health. In total, there are seven self-tests to choose from, and they’re all self-administered.
To be specific, here are the areas that can be tested:
- HIV
- Sexually transmitted diseases
- Cholesterol
- Diabetes
- Liver function
- Cancer markers
- Nutritional deficiencies
In addition, there are also tests for hormonal and reproductive health issues.
Unsure
Tests that require blood samples would go through the clinic’s phlebotomist, who will be onsite.
Other than that, it’s essentially self-administered.
“For sexual health tests, the only additions are urine tests and self-swabs for orifices involved in sexual intercourse. These self-swabs are taken by the patient with clear, illustrated instructions given prior,” said Dr Julian Hong from DTAP.
And if you’re unsure? There will be helplines available for you.
Apparently, unsure or undecided patients can request help through telecommunication, which is available in the self-testing room.
How Does The Process Go?
To sign up, you’ll have to either make an appointment online or physically register at the clinic.
Thereafter, you just have to answer a specific questionnaire, pay your due fees and a suitable test kit will be passed to you.
When the process is over, you simply have to pass your sample back to the receptionist and tadah, you’re done for the day.
What’s more; results are supposedly highly accurate too, with more than 700 tests done thus far eliciting “100 per cent success and accuracy.”
Apparently, encrypted results are delivered either via email or WhatsApp within 72 hours. Those that require lab work, however, would take five to seven days.
Individual tests start from SS$59. Detailed sexual health tests are the priciest, and can go up to S$348.

Self-Tests
Meanwhile, self-testing has also been adopted over in the pandemic-related sector.
100 vending machines dispensing antigen rapid test (ART) have been scattered at 56 locations across Singapore.
Eligible personnel can redeem three self-test kits each.
A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) swab test, however, still requires you to head to the nearest Swab and Send Home (Sash) or a private practitioner.
