Rescuer Blamed for Saving Dog from Heavy Traffic at Kembangan; Owner Ranted About the Dog As Well

The Chinese have a saying:

“好心没好报。”

Which when translated to English, simply means: “Good heart no good hug”, or to the correct meaning, “Kindness does not beget good karma.”

And though I would like to denounce such a malicious-sounding statement, I have to admit that it does have its rare few occurrences:

Such as the following one, which makes you wonder just why kindness is a virtue at times.

How It All Began

On 13 March 2021, a Reddit user posted a rather intriguing (and somewhat rage-inducing) story on the discussion site.

According to the post (and the contextual story in the comments section), the user had been out driving down Frankel Avenue when a dog could be seen running on the roads.

Apparently, traffic was moderately heavy, and the critter nearly got hit a couple of times.

Concerned, the user chased the dog into a condo and successfully managed to retrieve it.

The next best course of action, however, was distinctly missing. Thankfully, the user’s mum intervened and took them to the nearest vet, where they were informed that the doctor was going to check for a microchip.

After discovering the chip, the user was instructed to get in touch with the Singapore Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) – which in turn asked the user to take the dog back home and await their arrival.

While waiting, the user applied for a Facebook group chat for lost and found pets, but was only approved after the dog was picked up. With that in mind, the user created a post, asking for the real owner to call SPCA and retrieve their dog.

Rescuer Blamed for Saving Dog from Heavy Traffic at Kembangan; Owner said Dog was ‘Human’

As it turns out, the owner contacted the user soon after. Which would have led to a feel-good, heartwarming reunion of owner and dog had the former not sent a cryptic message.

In a screenshot attached to the post, the owner is clearly annoyed at having to head down to SPCA to retrieve their dog, and makes no effort to hide it.

Naturally, the user was incensed.

“Excuse me? I had to run and grab the dog in the middle of the road. I spent 20 minutes trying to make sure YOUR dog wasn’t about to be run over! I also kept the dog for 3 hours before SPCA came. There was also no collar on the dog.”

The user also questioned the owner’s priorities.

“You should be less interested in 55 dollars and more interested in the fact that your dog is ok.”

But instead of being apologetic and regretful and generally tearful, the owner came up with a rather odd-sounding rationale.

“His not a dog. Character same human. No way of locking home. His lifestyle is like this on a daily basis since day 1.”

Now lest you’re unable to understand, a ‘translation’ has been provided in the comments section:

“He’s not a dog. He behaves like a human. I cannot lock him up. His behaviour has been like this from the start and I cannot train him.”

In other words, the dog was apparently a human-like creature that cannot be tamed.

Or at least, that’s what the owner theorised.

But the user had no intention of entertaining the far-fetched sounding notion, and simply told the owner to contact SPCA directly in a curt manner.

“Yup no choice,” replied the owner. “Just ranting.”

Netizens Were Equally Incensed

Suffice to say; the owner’s comments did not prove popular with the crowd.

Some called the owner out for being an irresponsible pet owner, while others dissed his/her command of English.

Jokes were also made.

It should be noted that one particular Netizen made a very accurate-sounding assumption.

Had the dog been wearing a collar, the $55 fee might have been avoided.

Well, the owner has certainly become wiser now.
