It’s always a sad occasion when animals have to be put down, either due to financial issues or other related reasons.

And that’s especially so for owners of foster homes who have dedicated a large part of their lives to doing the exact opposite: taking care of abandoned/stray animals and making sure that they stay alive.

M’sia Dog Shelter With Over 3,000 Dogs Closing & Require Donations So Dogs Can Survive

An animal shelter in Malaysia is currently trying to save 3,000 dogs, 60 cats, 20 tortoises, 1 pig, and 1 monkey from being euthanised.

To make that a reality, the shelter, called Mee Fah Shelter, is appealing for donations and adoptions from the public.

From the looks of it, it appears that the shelter will have to achieve the above by the end of the year, before it’s forced to shut down the premises in light of dwindling funds.

According to the Malay MailChan Mee Fah first started the shelter around 10 years ago due to her fondness for animals.

She has been utilising the inheritance left behind by her late husband to run and upkeep the shelter, which is situated in Semenyih, Selangor.

However, due to the shelter’s frequent rescue acts (which means more animals are brought in regularly), funds are running out fast.

It doesn’t help that the shelter operates on a purported daily cost of S$652 (RM2,000) either.

Initially, Mdm Chan considered euthanising the animals to maintain the shelter.

But volunteers disagreed, as the act contravened the no-kill policy Mee Fah Shelter has adopted.

According to reports, Mdm Chan has since begun to stay at the shelter to spend time with the animals.

In total, pet food consumption per day is stated to be somewhere around 14 packets of 15 kg kibbles, and 17 packets of 10 kg rice.

Selangor Furry Future Association

To incite larger donations, the Selangor Furry Future Association has been established to handle the incoming funds.

Apart from donations, the shelter is also actively seeking keen adopters.

“All our dogs and cats are either spayed or neutered,” said a volunteer at the shelter. “Whoever wishes to adopt them, we can arrange to send it to them.”

The shelter is also in the process of reducing its number of workers, and welcomes volunteers to join the cause.

Thus far, a total of 17 workers are believed to work at the shelter.

Those who wish to donate can transfer to Selangor Furry Future Association’s Maybank account. Details are included here.
