It’s never easy to leave your husband and children behind at home while you travel to a foreign country to work by yourself.
However, a lot of domestic helpers are going through this situation just so they can earn money and put food on the table for those back home.
Unfortunately, not every story has a happy ending.
Domestic Helper Dies After Hit & Run Accident Outside Farrer Road MRT Station
A 49-year-old foreign domestic helper has passed away after she was involved in an accident outside Farrer Road MRT station on Saturday, 7 December.
She was hit by a car at a covered walkway outside the MRT.
According to The Straits Times, the police were alerted to a hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian and a car at Farrer Road, towards Queensway at around 6am.
Unfortunately, the foreign domestic helper was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic.
As of now, a 24-year-old man has been arrested for causing death by dangerous driving.
It is understood that the driver had lost control of the car, which resulted in the vehicle crashing into the covered walkway.
There are no further updates as investigations are still ongoing.
Victim Was A Filipino Domestic Helper
It was reported that the victim involved in the fatal accident was a Filipino domestic helper who was visiting Empress Market.
The market is located near Farrer Road MRT station, and she would head there daily to buy groceries.
After she did her shopping, she would eat breakfast with her sister and other domestic helpers at the market’s food centre.
Unfortunately, what appeared to be a normal day out and part of her daily routine turned out to be the last.
She Had Worked In Singapore For 15 Years
Lianhe Wanbao reported that the victim had been working in Singapore for a whopping 15 years. She has two sons who live in the Philippines.
