Over the years, employers, as far as domestic helpers are concerned, have garnered a pretty bad reputation.
And really, who can blame us for thinking that way when we see a steady stream of headlines like this?
And that’s all in 2018 alone, mind you. Just imagine the number of horrific cases that have amounted over the years.
The horror.
But fortunately, not all domestic helpers are treated this way. Just like how there’s no Yin without the Yang…
There are also good employers out there.
Employer Appreciation Post
Just recently, Jackie Misa, a domestic helper based in Singapore, took to Facebook group FDW in Singapore to share her appreciation.
According to her post, she wished to share the heartfelt gifts she received from her employer, as well as her joy at being able to work for such a “sweet and loving employer”.
Transcript (in case you can’t read cos I’m a nice guy like that (E/N: Don’t lie you just wanna fill up the word quota right)):
“Have a nice day everyone i just want to share the early christmas bonus that i recieved from my sweet and loving employer…Im so happy that i meet this person that have eyes and kind heart to see youre hard work..The word “thank you” is not enough to say for all the things and how my employer treat me..Im really so bless to work this family…I know God always bless this family….love u mam…And youre family..❤”
She also attached several photo accompaniments to her post.
One of which didn’t just contain wads of cash notes, but also motivational quotes that wouldn’t have seemed out of place in an Instagrammer’s post.
Transcript (even though the handwriting is totally legible):
“Trade your expectation for appreciation and the world changes for you.” – Anthony Robbins
Dearest Jackie,
Thank you and keep going and keep getting better. You’re all amazing! We love you! xoxo
“The trouble with opportunity is that it always comes disguised as hard work.”
GOD BLESS
“The roots of all goodness lie in the soil of appreciation for goodness” – by the Dalai Lama
“I’m really so to work for this family…” her post reads. “I know God always bless this family….love u mam…And youre family..”
Well if there’s one thing for sure, it’s that the appreciation goes both ways.
Response
Reactions proved to be overwhelming, as the post has garnered more than 600 likes and reactions so far, as well as a hefty 50 comments and 13 shares.
Also, Netizens generally agreed on one thing.
That’s one nice employer.
But it wasn’t just positive jealousy going on here too, as some have chipped in with good stories of their own too.
Although to be fair, the lining isn’t all silver here.
But hey, at least there’s no abuse or anything.
I hope.
All in all
Domestic helpers are just as human as you, me or that Ah Pek drinking coffee in the local coffee shop. So perhaps…
We could all treat them like how we want them to treat us.
Although judging from how some will definitely react like the rhino…
I dare say we still have a long way to go.
