Don’t you find Mumble from Happy Feet so cute?
Oh wait, TGIF’s got the better of me momentarily.
This is clearly and instead, Don Don Donki’s equally cuddly mascot, Donpen.
Nonetheless, it surely isn’t making this TGIF any lesser, for today my friends, is the official opening day of the third and largest outlet Don Don Donki in Singapore and Southeast Asia at City Square Mall.
Section Attention
Lest you think that aisle arrangements are at best a haphazard and mindless detail on the back-burner, let me take this chance to enlighten you.
According to Hideki Okada, Director of Pan Pacific International Holdings:
“Every Don Don Donki outlet has a distinct store format and offering that is designed to cater to the unique retail behaviour of customers in its location. The expanded food offering in the City Square Mall outlet will cater to the high traffic of families who frequent the mall for shopping and dining options. Regardless of the size and structure of the store, we make it a priority to bring experiential shopping to anyone who walks in.”
Arrrrr….I see.
And to that extent, let me bring you through the various sections.
Bargain Section
Because Singaporeans are kiasu, I must inevitably write about this first.
Did your eyes light up the way my eyes did when you saw $1.00?
Mine did; I was like Cyclops seeing and spitting red.
City Square Mall’s DDD promises a more extensive and (dare I say) even cheaper deal that selection that starts from a very steep $1.00.
It’s so darn sale-sy that that their handwritten price tags in bold, red marker and placed in carton boxes, mimic that of the original Don Quijote in Japan.
Now, considered me sold sale.
Extensive perishables and delicatessen offering
Now, that is a whole lot of syllables for just five words.
But if you are looking for extensive Japanese offering in a compact space, this is the section you will be eyeing.
Potato chips, seasonal drink offerings from Japan, top-quality fresh fruits and produces, and imported Wagyu beef.
I mean the list just goes on and on and on and on…
Okay, you get my point.
Food Court
Because Singaporeans are also kian peng, we must start with bargains and end with food.
If you don’t agree, go follow our IG page.
Reader: Huh? What kind of bet is that? Either ways you win what.
Me: If you want to win, come here write your own bet lah.
Boss: Eh W, why you anyhow hire people? I can only pay them in cai pengs.
Okay, I digressed.
Here’s the Food Court.
The food court will proffer a total of 5 stores, each renowned, absolutely delightful and 100% guaranteed to satisfy your Nippon food cravings.
They are:
1: Hokkaido Ramen Santouka
2: Yakiniku Heijoen
3: Bonta Bonta
4: Rang Mang Shokudo
5: Ice No-Ie
Okay, now go wipe your drool away.
Opening Day Promotions
Before I go, just wee bit of PSA here.
