In line with the Singapore Food Festival, Chinatown Food Street returns with the theme “Savour the Past, Taste The Future” – comprising more than 30 iconic traditional dishes served up by 20 stalls and a team of specialist mobile hawkers – with ALL hawker dishes selling at only $0.50 EACH – just like the olden days.
On July 30 and July 31st, this 50 cents fest will transport you back into the 1950s/1960s, transforming the streets into a pasar or street hawker scene adorned with vintage push carts and ladies all dressed up according to the retro theme. This realistic backdrop will bring you a slice of the past, where you can get to experience how your parents lived and how the Singapore food scene was like in the past – bringing you a sense of nostalgia unlike any other.
Remember how your parents used to lament,” Wa, in the past, a plate of chicken rice only cost S$0.50?”. Now, this becomes a reality with dishes costing as little at S$50 – just like how it was enough for a sumptuous meal in the past. These dishes include timeless favourites like Sweet Noodles, Kok Kok Mee, Rickshaw Noodle, Ice Ball, UFO (Fried Oyster Cake), Hainanese Chicken Rice Ball, Mee Pok and more!
